    BP/w setup question

Can you comment a bit on why the switch? Is it strictly a bouyancy thing with the different suits and all? Also, I'd appreciate it if someone could comment in Dive Rite products, specifically their Travel27 EXP (I think that's the name of it) wing. Dive Gear Express has a pretty tempting...

    BP/w setup question

I have also been looking at getting a BP/W setup and was looking at the DiveRite package at Dive Gear Express. Seems relatively economical and is Hog/DIR compatible if I should decide to go for tech diving in the future. It's just a tad over $400 for the basic setup including the SS BP. I'm...

Paint Ball Mini Gauge for Pony Regulator

I assume the measuring device within the gauge is sealed, as you say, but I don't believe the entire interior of the gauge, including the lens, needle, return spring, etc. is exposed to that pressure...of course I've been wrong before.:dork2:

Paint Ball Mini Gauge for Pony Regulator

As much a question for my own curiosity as anything else but... wouldn't the gauge need to be sealed and waterproof at depth? I wonder if a paintball gauge would be? Of course the worst case in the OPs situation would be ruining an essentially free piece of hardware so no great loss so, as I...

Best and worst PADI distinctive specialties

I hope that's not in a golf course pond! :shakehead: I've got a friend who was a golf course greenskeeper for years, according to him the chemical runoff from all the stuff they treat the courses with would melt your skin :shocked2:

Dive gear out of the country?

Go to Aqua Windies if you end up buying in Aruba, they are near the Aruban resort and behind the hospital. They are a pretty large shop and carry quite a bit of gear. You WILL pay more there than online but pretty well in line with a brick & mortar shop in the states, so far as I can tell...

I know there are no stupid questions but.....

I wouldn't be too hard on the guy, sounds like a responsible instructor. Neither of you were certified divers yet and as such your safety was entirely his responsibility, allowing you to return to shore underwater and unsupervised would have been irresponsible on his part. Just my .02

    Breathing from a 30ft. snorkel

The best part of interminable threads is posters who don't read it before posting so we get to have the whole conversationi again and again! Makes for some really fun reading.:rofl3::coffee::D

    Breathing from a 30ft. snorkel

Isn't that SNUBA, sort of? I guess it would need a pump instead of a tank to truly qualify though. In any case an illustration of the problem of the 33' snorkel that I haven't seen here yet is a comparison based on relative pressure. Putting your lips to a snorkel at 33' and trying to draw...

    Spare Air: some thoughts

You already quit this once, why not again? Never understood the people that read and post to threads they hate just to say they hate them??? Anyway, I'm having fun and learning TONs fact checking the arguments...So far the only valid argument against SA is that stupid people will think it...

A New Piece of Diving Equipment

Up 'til this afternoon my newest piece of equipment was ALL of my equipment! I bought the entire basic set-up in Aruba just before my final checkout dive. I'm kind of a gear weenie, I know ;) I have a DeepSee warm water shorty wetsuit, a Sherwood octo, a SeaQuest BCD, a Cressi mask, and I...

    Spare Air: some thoughts

For winter cyber-diving in bottomless holes? For attracting opinionated posters like flypaper? For forever baffling the truly sanguine readers as why those who "hate these threads" keep opening them, reading them, and responding to them rather than just ignoring them...

    Spare Air: some thoughts

OK, now that I've let myself be drawn in from my usual lurking posture...and pardon me if I break ettiquette and post on topic...I think the OP missed a category in the Spare Air Dismissers, I don't know how best to label them. There seems to be a camp that doesn't believe in The...

    Spare Air: some thoughts

As a n00b on this board I'm keeping my postings to a minimum for a while, but I've been following this thread with great interest. It's helping me learn some of the players very quickly...seperating the "thoughtful, I'm just trying to help" posters from the "I'm shrill and pendantic and just...

    Glossary of Terms?

Hey folks, I'm still very new to this sport, I haven't earned my decoder ring and have yet to learn all the secret handshakes. And I'm guessing I'm not alone! Like any sport, activity, lifestyle, etc. SCUBA has a plethora of terms unique to itself, and like so many other sub-cultures many...

Whats the dumbest thing you've done?

Other than waiting until the second half of my century to get certified I haven't had time to be truly stupid in SCUBA yet...but have patience, I can see myself in many of the incidents posted here! The dumbest thing pre SCUBA thing that I have done in the water was when I was but a lad...I...
