    Lake Jocassee?

I made 3 dives from the diver's ramp on Sunday, May 25. The water level is down about 26 feet. The first training platform (damaged by recent storms) is now at a depth of about 8 feet (this time last year, it was at a depth of about 30 feet). The second platform is at a depth of about 24...

    Info on Villas Marba Hotel?

I haven't been back to Coz yet, unfortunately don't plan to return until January. I received one Private Message, copied & pasted below: "My fiance and I looked at Villas Marba last week. I started out staying at Hotel Cozumel about 8 trips ago and got tired of the games around the pool...

SD & SDHC Cards/Slots - Flash Memory Camcorders

For memory card camcorders, can a regular SD card be used in a SDHC slot? And will a card reader that accepts SD cards also accept (and read) SDHC cards?

Dumbest thought you've had regarding diving

Getting distracted and forgetting exactly what it was that I had in my mouth, and then taking a nice long breath from my snorkel at a depth of about 5 feet. That is something that I am reasonable sure will NEVER happen again :)

    First trip to Roatan

I've been once (2 weeks in June 2007). A good question to ask your hotel is "Do you have a back-up generator?". Whether they do or don't, I'd still take a small flashlight with extra batteries. Matches and candles can be purchased locally. I'd put my toothbrush, food items and any eating...

    Diving after Fifty??

I was certified at age 57, passed my Rescue Diver cert a few days before my 60th birthday. So far, I've made 448 dives, and the deepest dive has been 135 feet. And the photo at left was taken a few weeks ago in Cozumel. Give up diving?? You got to be kidding; I'm just getting warmed up..............

    SC divers

My name is David and I live in GA, but dive at Lake Jocassee almost every week-end from late April to October (a case of pneumonia in 2005 it let me know it was too damn cold to dive at Jocassee in November in a nearly worn-out 7/5). I've dived in Honduras, Bahamas, Mexico, Belize, FL...

    Morrison Springs is Dead

This is ONLY supposition on my part (I have no first-hand info), but considering that not only divers, but swimmers (including little kids) and snorkelers will be using the walkway, probably there will be steps at the end of the walkway that go all the way to the bottom (and are anchored there)...

    Looking for Dive Destination Recommendations

You might want to look at the Corn Islands of Nicaragua. I haven't been, but I'm probably going later this year for my annual "two-weeks-off-the-beaten-path-summer-scuba-diving-trip". (As mentioned on the other forum, last year it was Roatan.) There's a lot of good info here: The Corn...

    Looking for Dive Destination Recommendations

I wasn't really bothered by the bugs too much, but I saw some people who were badly chewed up. They weren't a problem on the water at all when I was there. In the evenings walking around, I'd use 100% DEET (purchased at Wal-Mart before leaving home) and it worked pretty well. For me, the...

    Looking for Dive Destination Recommendations

If you don't mind bugs and heat, you might want to consider Roatan, Honduras. Lodging is inexpensive ($30 - $40 per night), and quality diving starts at $20 - $25 per dive if you furnish your own gear. And if Roatan is on your list of places to visit, I'd go before they finish the cruise ship...

    Info on Villas Marba Hotel?

We are thinking about a long-term stay in Cozumel and remembered that this hotel looked pretty good and advertised daily, weekly and monthly rates for apartments. It is located on 5th St., less than a block from Christi's place. Has anyone stayed there, and if so, how was it? Anyone have info...

    Roatan for Non-Diver??

    Roatan Departure tax - 2008

In 2007, I think the amount varied between $32.00 and $33.19 depending on your final destination. If your departing flight from Roatan was a connecting flight, the tax was $33.19. If your departing flight from Roatan took you to your final destination, the tax was $32.00. At least that is how...

What type of grocery items can I take to Cozumel?

I think pre-packaged stuff (coffee, candy, breakfast bars, chips, etc.) that you buy in supermarkets is okay. However, you have to declare all food items, which means they'll probably check your luggage when you go through Customs & Immigration. We spent 2 weeks in Coz last January (and we're...

    Shore diving in Cozumel

I really enjoyed shore diving just south of the Caribe Blu. It provides a great opportunity to dive really SLOOOOW. If you get down on your knees and just sit beside a coral head, you'll be amazed at the number of species that starts to move around after a couple of minutes. Last January, I...
