I travel frequently, and would like to dive more when abroad.

Right now it seems like the best way to find dive boats and book trips is to just google diving in the area and then call or email the best looking company about booking.

How do you find/plan dives when going abroad? Any tips?

That's what I did on my one trip to Panama. I've collected a list of about 5 dive ops in all the Carib. & Mexico that allow shell collecting--did that over the years by contacting many by e mail. I can't think of a better method. I know several shops with charters on the N. Gulf of Mex.--again, originally by Googling. Only problem is getting enough divers and good weather for them to go out in "winter".

try scuba board and google, trip advisor. trip advisor is a funny one though, so don't rely completely. try youtube searching the company and then the company name plus "review" or something similar.

i usually ask my LDS if they or their members have been to the area, on a couple of occasions they have known the area and given me good recommendations. if they don't know or haven't been then i look on here or trip advisor

Yeah, that's prettymuch what I thought.

I've been toying with the idea of putting together kind of an AirBnb for diving to help make it easier for the last year or so. Do you guys think that's something the community might find useful?

You could also go to the SB subforums for the area you want. I have found 4-5 buddies that way, all be it in Can. & US.
