When boat diving around here (Brazil) we usually don't have time to jump in and don in the water, so that means giant stride 99% of the time. No problem doing it in sidemount: I usually clip tanks to the harness (top and bottom) and loop them with the bungees. Then walk up to the platform, one hand on mask and reg and the other usually holding the camera/GoPro, elbows down to secure tanks and send it.

I have 200+ dives in 2x 80’s Sidemount + 1 x 40 Alu Deco and stage using giant stride from dive boats in all sorts of weather and have never had an issue, a double ender with some paracord is a good idea on the boat , as Sidemount divers we all have our own custom setup and certain ways of doing things that’s what makes it fun, so see what works for you. I have also just connected my left hand tank and jumped carrying my right hand tank and donned it on the decent, just be aware of current. I dive a lot in South Florida where you can get some spicy surface currents

Just got back from Bonaire. As my wife likes Oil Slick Leap I dove it 5 times without issue. That's about 10'(3m) to the water. As @inquis said I use Paracord loop and double enders for ingress and egress, bungees only on while in the water.
