I found a weight pocket on the bottom with 8lbs in it 2 days ago.
I can only speak for my agency (PADI) with assurance, but I have never heard of anything different from any other agency. There is no restriction whatsoever on what kind of BCD can be used for the OW class. Tomorrow I will do the first OW certification dives for my granddaughter, who did her pool sessions with a diver operator in her area. The class was done with BP/W, and that is what she rented from them for her OW dives.Do any of the certifying agencies other than GUE, now offer a course in BP/W as a kind of standalone course, or give a student the option at OW level? I switched to BP after about 3 years of diving a Seaquest Balance, then Zeagle Ranger, because I was looking for a more streamlined rig. But I didn't learn about BP/W from an instructor, but through my own research. I just had to invest the money and try it out asmy LDS looked at me like I was a two headed alien when I first asked them about it. That was 20 years ago, and now they sell BP/W rigs, so I guess maybe it's more prevalent now?
I don't see why you would need a course. And the agencies just consider it to be another BCD so there's no problem with using it in an OW course.Do any of the certifying agencies other than GUE, now offer a course in BP/W as a kind of standalone course, or give a student the option at OW level? You didn't just steal a stop sign from a relatively innocuous intersection and shape it yourself back then? I'm a NAUI instructor and I can teach in any type of currently available bc's without any need for special class or permission, jacket or bpw.Do any of the certifying agencies other than GUE, now offer a course in BP/W as a kind of standalone course, or give a student the option at OW level?
20 years ago it was a different world out there. That was 20 years ago, and now they sell BP/W rigs, so I guess maybe it's more prevalent now?
I used to own a Hollis BP/W setup (deluxe harness, ditchable & nonditchable weight pockets). Pretty nice way to go. Sounds like a good shop to provide that level of quality equipment. Hopefully their training matches. An LDS near me (S NJ) starts everyone on a BP&W (Hollis) , but they do have normal jacket BCDs if people want them.
Just curiosity on my part. I know there are alot of instructors on SB, so I just wondered if the big agencies were offering BP/W as a "specialty" or something. You didn't just steal a stop sign from a relatively innocuous intersection and shape it yourself back then? (Kidding)
No one offers a course about diving in a BP/W.
May I ask why the question
