Well, I suppose it can apply to all of them.
The subject of Tobin’s personality came up, so I did my best to try and explain my thoughts on maybe why he was the way he was.
Tobin’s worst enemy was himself on this board.
Yep. Great designer. Not so great of a communicator.

My son is currently using my old DSS plate, but only because I now have one of yours :)

When I bought my rig from him I called and spoke with him about it. I knew what I wanted/needed. I was wrong.

He talked me out of buying stuff from him that he did not believe I needed. And his guidance was spot on.

Yup, his kit was top quality.

I wanted a new wing with a bit more lift and watched for a while for a used Torus from DSS with no luck. I ended up with an Argonaut from Vintage Double Hose and am very pleased.

I still dive my DSS plate with weight plates attached. It was one of the first pieces of scuba equipment I bought back in early 2006.

He set me up with my BPW when I was new and didn't know much. Love that thing.
I was googling smbs last year and I saw a picture of his and tried to find out where to get it, and then went "oh."

I wanted something lighter/smaller for diving in 80-degree water compared with the stainless plate and LCD 30 I have. I've been shopping around and now I remember how innovative Tobin/DSS really was. So many little and big features, like plastic-lined loopholes, tank straps directly through the wing, and the overall quality of construction. I would have bought a lifetime supply if I ever thought they wouldn't be available again.
Really nice GIF! One of my favorite early cartoons, you do have to wonder what they were smoking. . .

I never thought abrasiveness defined a talented person since many of them are not abrasive and so many untalented people are.
