Hello,

37 year old man here. I don’t smoke or drink. I’m on no medications and have no preexisting conditions. I was recently declined a long term disability policy by MassMutual because I scuba dive in quarries. I informed them I dive in my local quarries 50-75 times per year and stay in recreational depths. Has this happened to any of you? Any advice or suggestions?

I carry the highlest level of DAN insurance so my diving is covered already.

Yes they have a detail list of questions about diving. They ask every potential client.

I would imagine it would depend on the disability. I really have no idea, though.

Reapply they most alway decline first time, may have to get an attorney as well it's. This is from a close friend of mines experience when he applied after being shot in the line of duty.

We're you denied a policy or were you denied coverage of a policy you have purchased?

I had no incident. I’m trying to purchase a policy.

This is normal.

You will need to shop around to find a different insurance provider that either does not consider scuba to be a hazardous activity or else understands enough about scuba diving to sell product to recreational divers.

Thank you. I was just shocked that I was declined because I “dive in quarries.”

The question is about purchasing product, not about making a claim for an existing policy.

Reapplying will have the same result as most underwriting is now automated. The only way to get a different result is to submit different answers.
