I have these weight plates that I found on DGX. Quite like them because they stay close to the body (or at least marginally closer than a weight pocket). But are these considered DIR-friendly?

Yep and they work perfect. I run 2lbs opposite my can light. Wore it for my fundies and when I dive with other GUE divers.

I don't see why not. A few people in my local GUE chapter use them, including one of our instructors.

Thanks very much for confirming! Great to know it has acceptance in your GUE communities. I imagine it does here as well, just never asked anyone locally.

I sure would hope someone 3D prints them at some point. $20 a set seems kinds high? Maybe that's just me.

Ha, yea it is certainly on the high side for a piece of plastic and bungies. I've reluctantly come to accept that this sport is going to make my wallet substantially lighter.

The plastic piece is unnecessary, it's just another solution in search of a problem. Folks have been attaching weights to harnesses using bungees for a long time, no $10 piece of plastic required.

A Simpler Way
It prevents the webbing from getting folded over on itself and makes it basically impossible for the weight to move. I use to use just the bungees and find the plate a bit nicer and more secure.
