Essentially-perfect experience with BTR. Very quick response to all emails, Daniel was at the airport with the truck. The rental includes a mobile hotspot, which we used in our rental house where the signal didn't extend. They did insist on PayPal for the deposit (at the time of the reservation, several months ago), which was cheerfully refunded to PayPal upon return of the vehicle. They came out and picked up the truck (which we had to return a couple of days before we left, but that's another story), to boot.

My Wife and I just returned from another dive trip on the island. We had a great time - really didn't seem that crowded at the sites actually. We rented a truck again with Daniel and Anna at Bonaire Truck Rental. They've added new trucks since we were there last. They are renting Toyota, Nissan, and Mitsubishis. We had a 4-door Toyota Hilux. It was roomy and perfect for diving. Again, excellent service. No waiting at the airport. Daniel was there and took us straight to the truck. When we left, we just dropped it off in short-term parking and walked into the airport.

I'm too lazy to go back and read through this entire thread. How well suited are trucks from BTR for divers wearing wetsuits? Is one expected to take off the suit between dive sites or are the seats covered well enough where this isn't a concern.

TIA

They ask you to put a towel on your seat. No big deal. The trucks we've rented with them had seat covers. So, not a problem.

Good question how different agencies handle the issue of wet wetsuits. I rented from AB for the first time recently, and I noticed they cautioned against getting the seats wet. And yet the seats looked like a plastic material to me.

At home, my truck has neoprene seat covers. One would think Bonaire trucks would be similarly protected against the obvious. However, asking that one simply put a towel on the seat seems like a reasonable request.

I agree - most rental vehicle seats on Bonaire are plastic or have covers. As long as you dry off and put a towel on the seat at Bonaire Truck Rental you won't have any issues with wetsuits, etc.

It is not just the "waterproof plastic" seats. It is the salt water draining off you and getting down into the seat sliding/adjustment/tilting controls and glides.

I can appreciate that. But 15 minutes after a Bonaire dive my wetsuit or bathing suit is moist, not dripping. I suppose AB just simplified their wording for brevity, but it sounded excessively restrictive or harsh to me. It sounds like Bonaire Truck Rental takes a common-sense approach. Sure, if for some reason you are still dripping wet when you get in the truck, put a towel on the seat. Duh.

That sort of common sense is not universally common among divers. :(

Very sad. I like businesses that treat me like an adult. Or maybe I'll just keep renting rusty beaters from Telerin.
