I've been diving with a Crosstour (GoPro knockoff) and it's been fine, but mostly what I enjoy is looking for is nudibranchs and such. This leads me to the TG-6 and housing. The question is lighting. My situation is that photography isn't my main focus. I just like having a camera clipped to a d-ring in case I find something great that I want to capture. Anything bulky, like a tray and light, I'd be less likely to take on dives. For mostly macro, I've read that the built-in light with the housing's diffuser works well for macro. I've also seen the Kraken/Weefine 3000 recommended for being really good and also compact. Would that really make a big difference for macro over the built-in light through the housing's diffuser?

Thanks for any comments.

I use my TG6 for super macro on Nudi's and other small critters. I have a home made tray. One TG4 diver I know of he only ever takes a small hand held torch or two for his Super Macro shots.

Wow, that's pretty psychedelic.

Yes he uses torches that have blue and red and other colours so he gets some great shots in. Also see under his name Underwater Photographer. Just shows what type of photos the TG series of camera's can take in super macro.

Yeah, the camera seems like a perfect choice for me. But knowing myself, I need to keep it really compact or I will end up not taking it on dives nearly as often.

Putting the Weefine Ring Light on the TG-6 housing is going to make it pretty heavy. I have the light and I like it for macro but I also have the housing on a tray with video lights or strobes. The camera’s flash, especially in the case, does not provide proper lighting for macro. Additionally, you would probably need some model of focus light to aid the camera.

Is the additional weight really gonna be an issue underwater? As for a focus light, I imagined the lighter mode when the ring light is in strobe mode could take care of that. No?

My setup DIY tray two big blue VL4200P video lights TG6 in PT059 housing. You should have the housing at least. Lights you need for macro. The seahorse taken at 26m depth so you would need a housing for this as the TG6 without one only rated to 15m. As it was a dark overcast day I needed lighting. As I take video also I only use video lights which are power adjustable. I mainly use the TG6 for macro shots unless a turtle or lion fish takes my eye

That looks super cool, but the ring light I think is about as "big" as I'm willing to go.
