1) what is a "sidemount helmet"?? I dive sidemount and wear a helmet but it wasn't described as a "sidemount helmet" when I purchased it. Is a "sidemount helmet" something you mount of the side of your head? A helmet is a helmet is a helmet.

2) Why do you need a helmet at all??? You do not. But they are handy if you choose to mount a couple backup lights, a mount for your primary so you can have your hands free while doing line work, and even a GoPro mount. I definitely don't like to argue with other "teams" who like to defend their position ferociously online. Do you want one? Get one. Don't like the idea? Don't get one.

3) I purchased a famous brand helmet and regret doing so. I always say it was the worst piece of equipment I ever purchased. WHY? Because all you need is a used skateboard helmet. Remove the padding (because it floats) and.... voila. I could have spent US$5 instead of US$75 for the helmet.

Same here. The specialist 'cave diving' helmet didn’t even nearly fit and certainly not over a hood. Swapped it for a cheap climbing helmet, removed the polystyrene leaving the webbing, replaced the chinstrap+clip with a bungee and it works very well for well under half price.

Damn rightz!! Hahahaa. The bungees on the chin strap are awesome!!!

Also, a piece of pvc pipe to hold my primary light, a few loops of bungee for the secondary lights and i’m golden!!

😎🤘

As per, I butchered one of our kids old skating helmets, they have graduated to motorbikes now!

I like a small head mount for notes, survey and tie offs and its so easy for backup lights, as I SM OC and bailout.

New to sidemount and looking for a helmet and torches. Has anyone tried Razor's helment and or lights? Thanks for the feedback

As others have said there are better choices than the Razor brand or Lightmonkey style helmets.

Actually the main reason for steering away from the Razor helmets are they do not protect your head (even says it right on there website). The reason I wear a helmet is to protect my head. I have hand many rocks, debris, etc fall on my helmet will descending into caves especially if your repelling and your rope above you knocks something loose. A little golf ball size rock falling from 20 meters up and hitting you in the head while on repel would probably not end well with out a proper helmet. And I cant even keep tack of how many times I have knocked my head on the ceiling. I use climbing helmets like the Petzl Vertex or Ecrin Roc. Work helmet/climbing helmets actually come will real third party safety ratings like CE, EN 397, EN 12492, ANSI Z89.1 Type I Class C, EAC certifications. Meaning they are actually designed to protect your head. Plus most of them have lots of vent holes already in them so you can just run bungees through existing hole to attach backup lights.

Serious question: you mount notes on the helmet?? That’s what I understood.
