Hey there,

I'm looking/saving money to buy my first Rebreather.
I've been comparing a few models and am hesitating between an AP Inspiration and a JJ CCR.
My situation:
I live in Germany and the (used) market is more or less full of both units, that's why I'm considering about AP or JJ... Afaik is an AP maintenance station located in the Netherlands, so the Brexit would be no expensive problem.
I would use it mainly for deep diving, later, with more CCR experience also for cave diving.

Can you tell me some pros and cons between both units?
Thanks in advance

they are more similar than different. I'm certified on the APD, not on the JJ, but I've been on some pretty big dives with teammates that use them.

JJ comes stock with basically the same scrubber as the AP, but it has the option for an extended range radial scrubber.
JJ only comes with BMCL, APD can come with either.
JJ has Shearwater Electronics, APD has proprietary
APD is designed to be used in solenoid control mode only and the HUD is basically useless for flying it manually, so you will need the HUS or keep checking your wrist if you don't want the solenoid to do all of the work.
JJ is easier to put into a GUE style rack if you want to go that route.
APD is easily the most prolific CCR in the world which is good for resale and service.
APD uses their own regulators, JJ uses Apeks
APD has the temp stick which is super nifty, JJ does not.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of them.

Thanks for the answers. To put the case in concrete terms:
I'm familiar with maintaining Apeks and Mares regulators. Is APD comparable with these or is it advisable to exchange the regulators?
I know I'll go to hell, because I'm not that orthodox, but I'm not interested in GUE :duck:
A used APD costs (in my country) about 2k€ less than a used JJ of the same age.
Which one would you recommend?

the unit will no longer be considered CE approved if you change them.
They are compatible

To be honest, if I have a CCR accident, I think the CE certificate will be my smallest problem.
If I understand you right, you would buy again an APD unit?

I do not own an APD, I use them for scientific diving as they are required for those dives, but it is not a unit I would purchase. I would not purchase a JJ either. My criteria are not the same as yours though and there is nothing wrong with either of them, but I have very specific criteria for my personal units with the diving that I do

For some reason I thought that my APD 1st stages were APEX, unfortunately I'm not at home, but I thought they like the UST. The repair documents sure seem pretty close.

I don't have any experience with the JJ or have I ever dove with someone diving them so I can't compare them. I do really like my inspo, but I did get the 'travel tube' from silent diving so I could use 3 ltr bottles, which with the yellow/black box I couldn't. I have just over a hundred hours on mine and since I moved to the carribean I will be clocking a lot of hours on it.
