I just signed up for the full face mask class. I just picked up a Neptune full face mask with coms. I am a little nervous as I only have about 20 dives in and the face mask clearing was the worst part for me during my OW course. The fact that I wear contacts doesn't help either lol.

I see padi does not have elearning for the class. The shop said there was a padi full face mask manual, but they didnt have one because it was a specialty course. I cant really seem to find the manual or crew pack online. Does someone has one lying around that they would be willing to sell.

Thanks!

I do not believe PADI has a student manual or crew-pak for this class.
There is an Instructor Manual, but not a student manual.
There are also manufacturer-specific Distinctive Specialties for various brands of full face masks.
Frankly, I doubt it will solve the problem you think you have....

So is it like one of those where you just show up and they teach you what you need to know?

Probably, but I don't know what you signed for or how they are teaching it. They may have their own materials to give you, but from your description it sounds like they are just going to lecture.

References are quite few; but I can recommend 2012's The Encyclopedia & Guide to Diving with a Full Face Mask by Robinson, which offers a decent overview of full-face mask use; the sundry hardware and the history involved; and some of the potential pitfalls . . .

you need to figure out how to clear a mask before you start down the road of this course. You are going to have to exchange the FFM for a half mask and back so if you aren't comfortable with mask clearing you are seriously going to struggle.

I teach a lot of FFM classes as we use them here at the aquarium for a variety of activities - in my opinion, the entire point of taking the FFM class is to learn skills like removing your FFM and switching to your back-up mask in a safe and efficient manner. To suggest that someone "figure out" the skills before a class that is designed to teach those skills is baffling to me. Please find a good FFM instructor and take the class.

YMMV,

Jackie

I wasn't suggesting using the FFM before the class. I was suggesting making sure that the diver is comfortable taking their normal mask off and putting it back on before trying to do it with a FFM. FFM is one of those things that I actually recommend you take a class with someone who knows what they're doing prior to attempting it and it's also one that I get in the pool myself before I have any big jobs since I don't use them every day.

There is no crew pack. I second the book mentioned above as it has useful information.

You need to be comfortable with mask clearing before moving on the ffm. Before taking the course go and practice removing, replacing, and clearing your mask. You don’t have to like the skill, you just have to master it.
