Can someone tell me if 50 minutes is enough time for transfer in MIA to BON? American airlines has once again screwed me over and the flight they are now showing from Richmond, VA to Bonaire only has 50 minutes between flights. I would not be concerned if it was not an international flight.
Thanks.

Probably OK. 45mins is a legal connection. You'll be fine if the gates are not too far apart.

Same thing happened to me and I'm the nervous type . I just wasn't comfortable since the Agent said 'Well if you miss the connection, you'll just go on the next flight where we have seats'. As if that would work with twice weekly flights and car & accomodations booked.

So I had AA change our EWR to MIA flight to the prior day (no charge of course) and we'll stay overnight nearby. Costs a little more but we have peace of mind. We'll see what the COVID requirements are by Aug 25 but I think we can get an ID NOW test near the MIA airport.

Good luck !

Same here. We treat the MIA to BON flight like a liveaboard and get there a day early (same with Roatan), no connections on the day of the flight. If you miss the flight you'll have a mess getting there and who knows what will happen to your bags. Unfortunately we learned through experience though on the upside we ended up with a few new dive shirts. :)

I’m also using AA to Cali, Colombia, heading to Malpelo with layover in Miami for 60 minutes (now boarding in MIA leaving at 10:30a). AA bag track shows that my bag is loading to the plane within 30 minutes.

I was referring to what happens to your bag if you have a missed connection. With limited flights it can take a while for them to catch up to you especially if they get misplaced during your re-route. To the OP, hey, if all goes smoothly you win. Just in case it doesn't, put a little extra thought into how you pack your carry-on. :) @Dan , have a fun trip. :bounce::bounce::bounce::clearmask:

Hi JD,

Same thing happened to us on our CVG to Curacao trip. We had 45 minutes. You should be fine if your flight from Richmond is on time. Also, pay for an upgrade seat that is forward in the cabin. That way you won't have to wait for the rookies to deplane. Do you have miles? Just upgrade to first if you can. Getting off the plane quickly will help you greatly.

If you fly down early, the Airport Hotel is dated but very clean and nice. You do not leave the airport as it is in the terminal. Very nice if you have to stay overnight.

cheers,
m

If I have luggage packed I'm always concerned with any layover less than 90 minutes, too much of a risk for the first flight to be delayed for some reason and then the luggage doesn't make the change to the new plane.

i get sphincter spasm with anything less than 60 minutes in MIA, ATL, or O'hare.

I just cancelled a trip to Bonaire because Delta changed the flight time out of Toronto so as to leave only 50 minutes in ATL between flights.
Between rushing through the airport, not making the flight and/or my bags not making it, I thought it was not worth the anxiety.

I had originally planned on flying into MIA the night before but they just changed the direct evening flight to a 5 1/2 hr trip VIA Charlotte. That plus the hotel stay and checking in and out of airport and baggage claim made me rethink just flying through from VA to BON that way baggage in theory would be checked straight thru and we could save on hotel. 50 Minutes seems a bit short but I guess if the bags done make it Wednesday they should get there Saturday which would mean rental equipment for a few day. We can pack essentials in carry on including Regs. Of course this is at least the 5th time we have had to change these flights due to American Airlines B.S. once this trip is over they go on the no fly list along with United.
