Well I remember few years back in that really bad dengue outbreak, they were stacking them in the halls at the public hospital. Best to go private! I know a nice couple that got to share a nice Covid room at International!
I agree about private hospitals in Cozumel! Some people have no choice. Happy that the good doctor had the choice to get to Costamed. I was an active participant in the dengue outbreak and spent 5 days at Medica San Miguel. Not the killer view you had at the International Hospital but I had extraordinary life saving care and dinner from Kinta!

That really bad Dengue outbreak was in 2013 - I too had it but no beds available in any hospitals - it was right before I got sober - so I remember the year well :)

Yea that sounds right. We were a little worried about Susan getting that during a halloween trip. Oddly we found that hydroxychloroquine was supposed to help prevent or minimize dengue and she was already on it!

Dr Julio is still critical and on a ventilator We are holding a raffle later this month.

There was a big update about Dr. Julio's condition posted on the GoFundMe page yesterday. Although he is doing better, that's a relative term and it sounds like he's not out of the woods yet, having endured surgeries and a tracheotomy. There's always someone in need in the world, and a million ways to contribute, but as an animal rescue and shelter supporter I encourage anyone who might not have heard about this yet to visit the site and contribute if you are able and willing. People who do what he does are few and far between, and it would be a great loss to the pets and citizens of Cozumel if he was not able to resume his work after recovery.

Mexico is the best of socialized medicine. If you got nothing you can get free government care more or less.

Seen a post on Facebook the other day that local hospitals were requiring payment for covid treatment from thos wih no credits..... Sounds like not everything is free for the ones that need it most

well there are the socialized medicine hospitals which might not have capacity or all the treatments. During the dengue thing, they were stacking them in the halls.

Or you go to a private hospital with cash or private insurance and get more personalized care.

Back in 2013 the manager of my LDS had kidney stones, the social security hospital told him them would probably pass on their own at some point. I gave him some money so he could go get treated at San Miguel hospital.

update. Julio is no longer in the ICU section. He now is "delicate" vs critical. Its nice to see various friends and local vets help with his expenses. Doubt if anybody wants to win a new bike but the local vets are doing another raffle to help with the mounting expenses.
