I'm looking to convert from a jacket-style BCD to a BP/W rig, and have the same question as the OP. Also, is it most common to purchase the components (BP, webbing, wing, etc) online and DIY the assembly, or purchase from an LDS and have the assembly done there? I'm a little nervous about doing it myself, but the local shops don't seemto have a lot of inventory.
NOT rocket science
More than enough on youtube for anyone to digest!!!

DYI.
An untrained Ape could do it.
And looking at some setups, I am sure it was a requirement.

Can you expound on that?

Sure, just a few.
Webbing through the bottom slots the wrong way [twist out, most know, some not], Backplate too far down the back [check the height and shoulder straps], crotch strap too tight or loose or on the buckle.

Oh, and the STA and wing that fell apart when doing a stride off a boat, loose wing nuts. [Always check]
I will stop now.

Not sure I need an STA so maybe that won't happen to me. :)
Thanks everyone for the advice and links.
If I end up purchasing online and assembling the rig myself, would it be OK to take on a dive trip without having any time in the water? Just a little nervous since my next dive will be two years since my last dive as well.
TIA for any suggestions.

Are there any nearby lakes where you can splash? I know it is kind of dry, but getting familiar with your gear prior ot a trip is generally recommended.
