I don't know him but am fighting the same disease. Today's treatment marked the half way mark of an 18 month treatment plan. I'm hopeful things will go well because it was discovered (or more accurately suspected to be there) just before last years trip. Proper diagnosis & treatments were delayed thanks to Covid shut downs to local hospitals at the time but all I can say is

Men get that PSA test or any others relating to early discovery. According to the statistics 7 out of 10 my age will get it.

Another reason everyone should get their colonoscopy's performed. Forget that PSA test if you live in the states. Only colonoscopy can find and eliminate a threat before it becomes cancerous. I'm 50 and had a relative die from colon cancer because he never wanted to see a doctor. He died young. I've had 2 performed and my 3rd will be in another 2 years. Don't play with this.. by the time you feel bad it's usually too late and this is showing up earlier and earlier in life as time goes on. This is a 100% preventable disease if you have a colonoscopy performed at the recommended age for your risk profile (and these days many are saying even sooner than that).

I have had a few digital rectal examinations it see [feel] if I have problems there.
I have bladder troubles, so that was part of the examinations.
And a colonoscopy, but not for the prostate.

They check it all out at the same time from what I understand.

Internet search says NO re Colonoscopy being the way to detect Prostate Cancer. The procedure most commonly used is what I went through which started with the finger up the bum & PSA tests. PSA result had jumped from previous years which got me sent by my regular Dr to a Urologist for another set of tests etc & onto a hospital (delayed due to Covid) for a biopsy & then the full set of other tests before getting sent for 20 radiation treatments followed by 18 monthly Hormone treatments.

Edited to add this. I had no symptoms of any kind when this story began & I still have no symptoms so thinking you'll know something is wrong & it's time for tests is not a good plan. All things considered my treatments have gone very well with a few side effects but the radiation treatments really ate up a big part of last summer. The actual treatment was 15 minutes but round trip from home & back was a 3 hour trip every business day for 20 consecutive days. Hormone treatments are every four weeks & I've had some with no real issues but the last one totally drained me of all my energy & all I want to do most days is sleep. This (according to those giving me the treatment) seems very odd so now I'm getting several blood tests to see if I've picked something else up.
My diagnosis & everything that followed the 3rd PSA test fits what's listed here as the full drill you will likely go through if you're PSA reading is high.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! My father in law is a little over a year past his hormone treatments and is doing good. It was a bit of a rough road for the last part of the hormone treatments, similar to you. So many times guys don't want to go in for prostate exams or colonoscopies because of a variety of reason, but it's imperative we all do this for our health. You're welcome. I'm not sure why some feel this topic should be kept hush hush. We can't plan a way to avoid the aging process & to the best of my knowledge getting any form of cancer (other than from smoking or working with known cancer causing chemicals) can't be prevented by a simple lifestyle change or diet etc.
