I think it’s more about the vaccinated person would be “protected” from contracting the virus & that’s it. They might still affect others if they don’t follow the CDC protocols.

If I were to have the vaccines and somehow contracted the virus, I would still be wearing masks, washing my hands, etc. so I won’t be spreading the virus to others.

Actually it's not protection against getting it, it's 90-95% protection against severity. And we don't yet know of vaccinated people, who will be in large part asymptomatic if they get it, can still spread it

Vaccination is not a get out of jail free card. I don't intend to change a thing, and in fact have gotten more conscious about double masking and using a KN95/KF94 given the new variants

We are a loooooooooong way off from things returning to anything resembling normal

And btw, from my first question, has there been another extension of the travel ban, as I understood it went thru the end of Jan

Google translate, perhaps....
Nope. Google Translate thinks it is English. Translates it as written. No help there. :(

To be fair, here is my attempt at translation:

Indah stated:
The ban to enter Indonesia for foreigners has been extended to 08 February. We have to delay the arrival of the new strains as long as possible. Some days now can be hundreds or much more deaths later.
To which happy-diver responded:
we're providing hope and vaccinating the word against panic folks
and then explained further:
The hope of acquiring a vaccine therefore an outcome is keeping the population functioning

Translation:

We have to delay the arrival (into Indonesia) of the new strains as long as possible, so we are restricting flights, and waiting for vaccinations. "Vaccinations give hope, and help prevent panic. One outcome of vaccinations is is keeping the populations and economy functioning.''

My response is: this requires massive vaccination programs in the countries supplying the visitors, and in the countries (e.g., Indonesia) receiving the visitors. This takes time, probably years. Don't forget that the vaccinations do not prevent getting infected, they just give a high probability that you will not get really sick. You can still likely infect others...so we still need the PCR and antigen tests...and the masks and social distancing.

There are so many vaccines available in the market and all produced differently. The trouble is the variable degree of effectiveness(from just over 50 to 90%) of each of them! However, no one know for sure how long the effectiveness would last and on top of that the vaccines do NOT seem to stop you from getting the infection!!!! It just reduce the seriousness of the illness and at least one of them is NOT recommended for the elders!

The whole issue on vaccination is very complicated!
Mask for the next 6 months for me and as for travelling? Just wait and see.

Take good care.
