Atomic M1 hose routing for twinset OK?

Is the Atomic M1 a good reg for diving doubles? How are the hose routing options?

Looks fine to me online, but I thought I'd check with the Scubaboard crew too. I previously had my eye on the Mk17, until a more experienced diver pointed out that hose routing for doubles wasn't terrific.

from a hose routing perspective, it's a 5-port swivel turret, doesn't get any better than that for hose routing. Is it a regulator that I'd choose to dive? No, but that's because it's from a company owned by Huish, and then it's an unsealed piston which I'm not a fan of and if you choose to seal it, it's idiotically expensive and still risky.

scubapro mk19 has better routing than the mk17, but both are going to be spendy. deep 6 is a cheaper option for US, or tecline for europe. thanks to brexit, buying apeks from the UK is going to be a PITA.

M1 is sold sealed but yes, extra $40/reg for lube when servicing (some shops charge a lot more for the lube but that’s gouging).

Our trusted shop in Long Beach, CA only charges the cost of the actual lube and no extra fee for sealing. Atomic authorized the use of Tribolube 66, which costs $22, retail, for a 2 ounce tube, of which only half is needed to fill the water chamber. That's $ 11 retail cost to seal the reg (lower if the shop buys in bulk and at dealer prices). Perhaps other shops might want to take notice...

Darned if I'm going to service an Atomic, put it back together to ensure that there's no leak or IP creep, then take it apart again to fill it and reassemble for free. The fillers that squeeze it in from the piston head side still leave voids. So if you want to do it absolutely right, you do it by hand.

Reg service is a money losing proposition for every shop that does it as just a side business. Doing this particular service for the cost of lube only has made you a loyal customer, but has lost the shop labor time for their otherwise overtaxed repair techs.

I respectfully disagree that other shops should take notice. As I have argued repeatedly in several threads, good service for $30/stage labor price is an absolute steal for the customer. Parts cost we can agree to hate.

Fair enough, can't really argue against that... The cleaning alone is messy, but while surprised, I appreciate their policy. To be honest, I doubt many people will seal a piston reg as perfectly as you do, and finding someone who does it well may be more important in the long run.

I guess my main point is that lube does not have to cost $50 per 2 ounce tube (not an uncommon price for e.g. MCG111).

Probably nothing. A truly great lube! But you simply, absolutely cannot clean it off anything it touches. And if you are using high pressure oxygen, let's just say that's now frowned upon.
