I was on a Spirit return flight from Chicago a few years back and the seats were actual plastic. Hard plastic, no cushion, and had that bumpy elementary school red ball texture on them that just irritates your ass instantly. I stood most of the flight. Air travel is getting worse and worse for the common schmuck but it still beats walking.

We flew Delta for the first time in October, (because United canceled).
Sure learned why they're ranked like they are.

I'll get here however I can. Luckily, Cozumel isn't far from Texas; I can put up with just about any treatment from an airline for a couple of hours. Stuff me into an overhead bin; I don't care. :D

Same here. Up in the PNW I fly Alaska a lot and like them, but Delta is nice too. Way better than my experiences on UA or AA: Though I didn't necessarily have bad experiences, just a different level of experience. Especially in friendliness.

I had the opportunity to fly Virgin a couple times before Alaska acquired them (including their first class from CUN to LAX, which was fun!), and I liked them too.

We're pretty envious. By the time we hit IAH, (or DFW), we've been in the air for over 4 hours.
Not too difficult to understand why we're not big bag drag fans.

I wish Alaska offered flights, or at least reasonable flights, out of PDX.
Our choices with Alaska have always been at best, bad flights.

Our Delta flight had us return through DTW, which made for a couple long flights. A short layover helped, but again, long days.

I hear ya. My craziest on Delta was CUN-MSP-YVR as well as CZM-ATL-SLC-SEA. THAT was a long day! I also did CUN-YEG-YVR with points on Air Canada.

We have two options to Coz, either a redeye or stay the night in Houston, Dallas, Atlanta or Denver. I can't sleep at all on planes so we usually do the overnight option so I'm not dead tired when we get there. Good for us (when the border is open) is we will usually fly out of YVR. Way cheaper (usually $200+ p/p less for first class, which we splurge on), and such a nice airport experience compared to SEA. Hoping to have that option available soon, but not likely as Canada is gonna keep the land border locked down for a while I fear.

I'm not either. We did the bag drag once and I didn't care for it at all. It was partly because "traveling light" is not in our vocabulary, and partly because when we landed in Cancun we were only halfway to Cozumel, traveltime-wise. Getting to Cozumel wasn't all that bad, I guess, because we had our vacation to look forward to, but getting home was a real pain. I don't think we'll be doing it again even if the airfare is half to fly into Cancun what it is to fly direct to Cozumel.

As always, of course, YMMV and DSFDF.

Our vacation begins when we land in CUN. We start with overpriced airport beers for the bus, or better, beers provided by our private shuttle. Nothing unpleasant about driving down the highway looking at Mexico. Sitting on the ferry deck, looking at the ocean, sea breeze in face and cold beer in hand... some would call that an excursion. Each step in the process brings you a step closer and adds to the excitement. The only times the drag to Coz has not been fun have been when we landed late and either had to sweat it to catch the last ferry or hole up in Playa.

The return trip is more tedious as you have 3 hours to get to CUN and it is not uncommon for there to be delays in Mexico so you have to allow for even more than that. I have seen accidents shut down 307 for hours. To safely catch that 5pm flight from CUN might mean leaving your Coz hotel at 8am, and like you said, the logistical details are not nearly as fun when you're going home.

...Considering I’d have to pay $40 for my second bag (1st is free), I think the extra $101 is actually worth it ...
We always fly 1st class nowadays.

Looking at flexible departure/arrival dates, different local airports, and factoring in luggage fees, often we can fly 1st class on a Wednesday for a ticket price that is cheaper than a coach ticket on Friday.

With 1st class you get lots of space, free luggage, priority boarding, free alcoholic beverages, and a nice meal. All included in the price of the ticket.

Waiting for them Delta to add Cozumel to their schedule again.
I have so many AA miles but do prefer Delta these days.
