Nice DC. As a "tidy bowl," purely rec diver this is the first Shearwater offering that interests me. I know lots of folks that dive them and love them, but they were always "over-functioned" and over priced for my type of diving (all IMHO :)). I really like the screen, don't care about AI or compass, reasonably priced, and an excellent reputation. I hope they are around when I need to replace my current DC, which does everything I need, but is beginning to get a bit "long in the tooth." Good to see the offering... we'll see. :thumb:

Yes, although I was under the impression that the computer and the transmitter/pod were connected via Bluetooth. For my own knowledge, if it isn’t Bluetooth then what type of wireless transmission is going on?
Yeah, as mentioned by Ken, low frequently, long wave. The PPS transmitters use 38kHz.

It is also worth mentioning that (at least for PPS) there is no connection as such. The transmitter sends a pulse every 5 seconds (for the standard PPS transmitter) with the transmitter ID and the pressure. The dive computer merely listens for that pulse and if the ID is correct uses that pressure data.

If the dive computer displays "No Comms", it just means that it didn't receive a pulse in a certain amount of time. When I tested my Perdix, I get the yellow warning after 30 seconds of not receiving and red warning after 90 seconds. For my Oceanic Atom 3.0 it is 20 and 60 seconds.

The main reasons for not receiving the signal are the dive computer is put of range, there's something in between (like a diver) blocking the signal), or the transmitter is not at an optimal angle relative to the dive computer. On the latter, the signal from the transmitter is not equal on all directions.

Here is my WAG, if one looks at the price difference between the Perdix and Perdix - AI is about $85. That means the hardware is around $20 give or take. Now the Perdix came out first and was out about a year or so before the AI version came out. Birds of feather flock together. Look for a Peregrine-AI at DEMA 2021.

Aka broadcast. In order to go unicast you have to have a point-to-point channel between the transmitter the the receiver, and that just doesn't happen over the radio; the best you can do is encrypt your broadcasts so only the receiver can decipher them. That's how cellphones do it (and not very well).

Which is why any receiver (dive computer) listening for that transmitter ID can listen to the broadcast.

Any idea if DGX was put in timeout for spoiling the surprise? I see the Peregrine on a few sites for order, but DGX hasn't updated their site to be able to buy it.

Surprised there isn't a vibration alarm for MOD. Some of the alarms seem inconsequential compared to that. I would think anything that has a visual alarm would also have the option for a vibration alarm.

Does the screen layout change when it's in 3-gas mode to be more like OC Tec?

Maybe they should adopt the Tesla model and include certain features that you have to pay extra to unlock.

How did that work for the XDeep Black DC?
I don't actually know what killed that computer. Seemed like a decent option at the time. Could they just not follow through with production demand and overseas sales availability?

not having ai or the compass kind of hurts though and the worst case would be the peregrine ai shows up soon. i would hate to buy a peregrine now and the ai option show up 6 months later.

This happened to me when I bought my first Petrel and 6 months later the 2 came out with the compass. I was pissed.
When the Perdix came out I immediately bought it and I've come to realize the compass isn't all that important to me. It's nice that it's there, but I prefer an analog compass and rarely use the digital one.

Funny how the AI has become a deal breaker after years of "tec divers don't want AI... it's stupid to even suggest SW make a computer with one". I had a Suunto D4i... never bought the transmitter. But recently picked up a used Perdix AI and having it is admittedly nice, but not sure it's a deal breaker yet. Thinking about picking up another transmitter and using it for sidemount. I think that'll be the deciding factor.

While I love how it looks

Reminds me of the AL i770Rin form factor. Not crazy about the blue trim on the SW. I hope down the road they make a few different color versions to match the bands. Especially if they're target audience is recreational divers. I prefer all black so I find that SW blue to be a mild turnoff.

Certainly looks nice and will probably sell in great numbers.
However, moving from a AA battery to a factory removable rechargeable one is a backward step IMHO.
You'll always be able to find a AA battery somewhere even on a boat in the middle of the sea.

Backwards would have been putting a factory replaceable coin battery like a Suunto. This seems to be kind a move sideways. Rechargeable, but uses the pad that a lot of other devices now also use. Curious how fast it can charge from dead if you needed to do it on a boat with a portable power supply.

I certainly hope so.
Without an AI, it is a no-go for me.
With an AI, I would buy two... (new back-up for me and a new primary for my son :) )

The Peregrine is a very nice computer. Like many others, I will wait for the AI model. Not only will the Peregrine AI easily have the best features, it will likely be less expensive than competitive AI computers currently available from Aqua Lung, Mares, Oceanic, Ratio, Scubapro, and Suunto. The Peregrine AI will fill the obvious gap in the growing lineup of the Peregrine, Perdix, Perdix AI , and the Teric, I hope :)

It will be interesting to see where Shearwater goes with the Peregrine. I'm not much a prognosticator. I'm wrong far more than I'm right. I can see them going a few possible directions with it. The next 2 years will be interesting to see how things develop for Shearwater in this new line.
