# of dives
200 - 499
New Teric user with the Cloud (android and PC)

I've been doing divemaster training the past few days. That involved a ton of up and downs (for example - retrieving dropped weights from the pool bottom lasting a few seconds). Many dives being seconds or minutes long.

I could combine anywhere between 5-7 "dives" into 1 actual dive. How do I do this?

Thanks!

I use DiveLog and can merge dives, pretty sure you can't with the SW cloud. Why would you want to log pool dives anyway?

I’m not sure it’s possible in SW Cloud. Sounds like a nice future feature.

On the rare instance this happens to me I just edit the 2nd dive to have the same # as the first in the log on the computer itself and then reset the Next Dive # back one so that the log doesn’t skip a number. I then record them as one combined dive in the spreadsheet & paper log books that I maintain for myself.

This has happened to me 3-4 times over the last 8 years when I had to surface in the middle of a shallow dive, sort something out, and then continue the dive.

This isn’t ideal if you’re combining 5-7 dives into one but it works well enough for combining 2 into 1.

Along with @Mike1967 I’m curious why you’re logging pool dives? When I DMed I never took my computer in the pool. I kept track of pool work on a spreadsheet for training records but didn’t officially log them.

I've had no luck doing that with SW, so I just edited the the dives all the same number. Honestly, Subsurface is so much better of a platform to use, I rarely use SW software anymore. It very easily merges them.

Keep in mind, you can set the "end of dive" in the SW much longer to not count short-ish surfacing events.

YMMV

Good reminder. I'd forgotten that I eventually increased mine from the standard 60 seconds to 3 minutes. Since I dive at Blue Heron Bridge regularly there are times when you want to surface to sort something out or get your bearings and then head back down. You want that short surface time during a long, shallow dive to not trigger multiple dives.

@Shearwater 's logging software has always been the weakest part of their product line. We've asked for many simple things in there for many years, but it's obviously very low on their priority list. In the grand scheme of things I can't blame them and don't disagree with them for prioritizing the computers themselves, but it's unlikely that you'll get features like that any time soon.

As per @rhwestfall I was surprised to see that the end dive default on the Teric is 10 seconds. I have mine set for 5 minutes

The end dive time on my Oceanic VT3 cannot be changed, it is 10 minutes.

Thanks everyone!

As for logging pool dives, I don't usually do it. I am just asking for the sake of making 1 whole morning into 1 dive for the sake of logging "this was my DM dive".

Also for example, I dove rainbow river which depths fluctuated greatly. Dove it only once. My shearwater counted it as 4 dives! Since there was a couple sessions on surface to discuss stuff and a couple times we were like within the surface due to shallow depth.

Thanks for the comment about End Dive Delay. I'll have to change that, and it'll resolve this in the future.

I set mine to 10 minute delay and solved most of those issues. There are still the occasional 1 minute dive to retrieve weights or conduct rescue training (I usually don't wear my primary computer for those though... look! I did 27 dives today!)

Hi @Mike1967 - I'm trying to do the same thing the OP was looking to do - combine a day's worth of pool dives for my DM course into one just so I have a record of it. I have Diving Log 6.0 on my computer and DiveLog on my iPhone. I know they are two separate applications but they do play together well! I see the "merge dives" option on Diving Log 6.0 but when I highlight dives and click merge, nothing seems to happen. Is there a trick to it? Thanks!
