Both can be recycled but do they? Paper means cutting trees.

Electronic logbooks don't cause increased use of batteries, they use an insignificant of what is already here. Stop the exaggeration and justification for backwards mentality. You don't like and can't handle technology, why come here? Aren't you using electricity and batteries using SB and the internet? You can use smoke signals, drumbeats and whistling to stay in touch with your cavemen friends and not cause environmental disasters by getting online and wasting batteries as you claim.
Really?
I can sell paper back for recycle anytime. certain plastic bottle is also recyclable. But most electronic gadgets CAN'T. It is a fact but ignored by idiot, out of sight out of mind.
Can't handle technology? How difficult it is to down load to a computer, even school kid can do that. You have exaggerated your own ability.

I'll ask again - what are you using to post here on Scubaboard?

Get off the internet and save the environment!! Go back to making scribbles on the wall in your cave and not waste anything.

Attacking?
Electronic log book is absolutely waste of money and environmental unfriendly!
Paper can be recycled easily but can you say the same about battery?
Do you know what happen to all your electronic gadget including battery that you had disposed of over last 20yrs?

Paper and pen rule over electronic log book any time and anywhere. And I am not the only one so far here.
Wait! What?

You already admitted to using a dive computer! How environmentally unfriendly of you.

Congratulations! Your post just made the top ten list of the most ridiculous things I've read on the internet.

In all fairness, in many places here in the US it is illegal to throw e.g. computer/cellphone/TV screens into trash or out on the curb. In some places there is no fee for recycling small electronics gadgets but larger TV screens can easily cost you fifty bucks. At work we have a recycle bin for the batteries, in many places you have to drive them to dedicated location and pay a fee. (APC even used to include return shipping label in their replacement UPS batteries.) Ditto CFLs, and so on. And it's only going to get worse now that SEA is not taking our rubbish anymore (Treated like trash: south-east Asia vows to return mountains of rubbish from west)

Paper you can throw out free of charge. And it's bio-degradable too.

In all fairness

In all fairness unless the guy is riding a bicycle all over town and illuminating his home with candles and has no computer or mobile device and doesn't watch TV or use modern technology to improve his standard of living, for him to arbitrarily point the finger at those of us who *gasp* use digital logbooks and say we are environmentally unfriendly and wasting our money is reckless, irresponsible and defies any sort of logic and common sense. As well as being hypocritical.

(to) say we are environmentally unfriendly and wasting our money is reckless, irresponsible and defies any sort of logic and common sense.

:rofl3:

That's the problem with with logic: it doesn't care what you or I like. E.g. paper grows on trees, crap ICs made of does not. Ergo, logically, any self-respecting tree-hugger should embrace printed material: it's a renewable resource, and eschew the use of electronic media: the wasteful polluter.

Not if you're putting that paper into a printer- landfills are filled with used empty printer cartridges.

Sometimes. I was really interested in it for a bit, but I lost interest in short order.
Same here. I think I lost interest somewhere between 75 and 100 dives.

As for those talking about paper being more environmentally friendly than electronic (and posting about it on an electronic message board)...surely you were being sarcastic, right? I can only assume the others just missed the sarcasm and now you're trolling for laughs.
