Dont be me....

I purchased my Teric today and was charging it on my nightstand when I accidently snagged the cable and the Teric fell to the floor. Although there are no discernable outside marks, the display is now an illegible mix of jarbled colors. Im in contact with Shearwater to see if my Teric can be saved.

Be careful with dropping your Teric!

That sounds like a simple/typical drop. I wonder if it's a feature of the AMOLED screen?

A pic would be interesting :)

EDIT: p.s. I would definitely recommend getting a good screen protector for your Teric too.

On a scale from 1 to 10 (highest):
The Teric is 11. Shearwater Cloud is -1.

Agreed .. while the Teric and apparently other Shearwater computers are excellent (we only have Terics), their software, at least for iOS and MacOS devices is a joke and needs to be completely redesigned.

I thought I read somewhere an in-between the lines of SW acknowledging that. Hopefully the P&L from astronomical Teric sales goes towards towards SW Cloud.

Attached a pic for you.

Thankfully Shearwater customer service is excellent. It looks like i can get it repaired under warranty.

Please let us know what Shearwater thinks the issue is and whether just dropping it on the floor should be expected to break it. That could be a turnoff. Having one myself, I hope the thing isn't that delicate..

A few days ago I SMACKED my Perdix onto a tiled floor when it slipped from my hand shaking some water off after giving it a rinse. Hard impact and a good bit of sliding and bouncing.

No damage other than some very minor scuffs on the plastic. Did a couple dives since and it seemed to have left no lasting impression on the device. At least I won't have to worry as much when I bump it around the dive boat now.

I hope your Teric accident is a bit of a fluke and not the norm for such accidents, especially for an unforced straight fall to the floor. Glad SW sorts it out under warranty.

They said it should survive the fall but mine unfortunately didn't. Their customer service came through and sent me a replacement but I have a feeling teric may be more fragile than the petrel and perdix.

Say it ain't so! Actually, seriously, I am very curious to see the durability. To date it appears pretty tough.

wearing the Teric as a daily watch. It functions well in that capacity also :)

I have yet to purchase a wrist computer. I would love to have the Teric, but I would like to know if anyone knows how the Teric holds up to long term (over the fall and winter) storage. I have a smart watch I wear everyday. So, will not need to wear the Teric when not diving. Does anyone know the procedure for long term storage? Would I need to charge it every so often, or can I turn it off and place it in its box until needed next dive season?

I leave mine on my bedside table and did not use it as a watch between trips. Unfortunately my last surface interval was about 180 days. I think I charged it twice (once after about 100 days, and then right before I was about to dive it again).
