PLBs Can Save Your Life

I fit tested a 3.25 Oz of jello (“real” juice Orange gel) snack pack into my canister. Unfortunately it’s still too big, So I transferred some of the jello into a 2 Oz (60 ml) cup, sealed it & sticked it on top of the PLB1. It’s better than nothing I guess. It would certainly help to survive from dehydration after floating in hot sunny day for a day.

Good idea! If the tube length is shorter than 4.75" (12 cm) I may be able to snick in front of the PLB1 a couple of them in addition to the 2 oz. Jello.

I'd come to this wondering about creating one's own water in a slim tube with sealed bits along its length. I couldn't figure out how I'd do that when the Freezies idea struck. However, the Freezies are quite a bit wider and the length of them makes them less flexible than what I'd had in mind. Oh well, no sense in recreating the wheel.

I'm curious how flexible each freezes tube is. I'll buy a small package & try to jam them as much as I can into the canister with PLB1 in it. Hopefully I can put more than the 2 Oz. of Jello.

The expiration date should be good too. The Jello cup has 1 year shelf life.

I may put some of them in ziplock bag, packing them like in sardine can, without any air gap in the bag & jam the bag into remaining space in my BCD pockets

I'll be going diving in the Gulf of Mexico, Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary - Wikipedia next weekend so it'll be a good practice for my big trip to Banda Sea in September, Ring of Fire September 9-19, 2019

However, the Freezies are quite a bit wider and the length of them makes them less flexible than what I'd had in mind. Oh well, no sense in recreating the wheel.

This is definitely a great idea! I was considering to bring a 500ml water bottle, but I don’t like the inefficient shape of the bottle. This Freezies (Fun Pops, as we call it here) has a more efficient way of using BCD pocket space. The 9” (22 cm) long tube is exactly the length of each of my BCD pockets.

I went to Walmart and bought this bag of 36, 2.5 Oz each Fun Pops (a total of 2.55 liters) for $2.68.

I can actually pack 8 of them (a total of 600 ml) in a gallon size Ziplock bag and roll the bag and fit it in my BCD pocket right on top of the PLB canister on the left pocket and another 600ml bag on top of my DSMB in the right BCD pocket.

I manage to jam one 2.5 Oz. (75 ml) Fun Pops tube in the PLB canister. That single Fun Pops tube help reduce the canister buoyancy.

You can see the Fun Pops tube is pretty sturdy it didn’t burst after I cramp it inside the canister with the PLB1 in it.

I just got a Light Monkey canister for my ACR Resqlink+. This is easily the most bulletproof, rock-solid can I've ever seen. Very impressed. Took me five minutes to adapt to clip on to a D-Ring. The clips that secure the lid to the canister are also super high quality. I'm aware of the cost but quality trumps price here. (I once had to spend two hours waiting for a boat to pick me 5 miles off the Florida coast in the middle of the night so $200 is really a non-issue). Problem solved for me. Thanks Light Monkey.
