Damn, that really sucks. Where did the leak come from?

Tried to determine that at the time but frankly, was a bit miffed that a small amount of water caused a LOT of damage in electronic circuitry. Lesson learned. I tried to determine the leak but to no avail. SeaFrogs sent me a new back so I am suspecting that MAYBE they are aware of irregularities on the original backs. Either way, I was satisfied on their response to the problem. They shipped it to me no charge.

Noted. I think I'll tape over the hotshoe then. It is crazy, indeed, how extensive the fallout is for such a failure.

They are indeed aware. They sent me a new back without me having a problem or even asking for it.

Almost lost my A6300. My housing (salted line A6xxx) flooded. I had the 6 inch dome on and I had tested vacuum with VPS-100 before dive. A good amount (about 15 cl or maybe more) of water entered, the alarm sound. I switch off the camera and started ascension positioning the camera so as the water was concentrated in left bottom back corner. Once on surface I drained most water thru the "vaccum hole", screwed the cap back and waited for the boat.
Once on board I opened the housing and took battery out. It seemed not too much water had entered into the camera, battery compartment was dry, but I was wrong. It was saturday and no chance to have it opened by a repairman till monday. I called him and he suggested to put it again into housing, vacuum it and leave it vacuumed to have less oxigen as I had told him I thought not too much water entered camera.
His recomendattion had always been take battery out and put he camera into fresh water (to reduce the oxygen) while waiting for him to open it .
Fortunately, the camera went back to life.
I had noted that the O-ring in the vacuum "hole' was not there so I think of only 2 possible causes of the flooding:
1) The housing was not really watertight at 40 meters (that was exactly the max depth in that dive). And the O-ring was lost when I drained water on surface.
2) The ring went out of place when I took the vacuum valve out and screwed back the cap. Maybe I was not so careful.

I hope my experience will help others to avoid flooding.

Regards

When I tested my housing when I first got the VPS-100, the housing passed the test. But when I removed the VPS-100 to put the plug back in, I noticed that the o-ring on the plug fell off the plug and it was NOT on when I screwed it on. I found it on the workbench.
So - be VERY carefull that the O-ring is on the plug when you replace it. You may have had your #2 case happen where the o-ring was NOT on the plug cap when you resealed it.
I lost a A6300 totally and a circuit board from my 10-18 lens had to be replaced. Total damage cost me over $1600 .....

Yeah, I found the o-ring on the vacuum plug comes off easily as well. I always double check that the o-ring is still there when putting the vacuum plug back on.

Hello! I've been following this thread ever since i got the new Seafrogs A6xxx housing and got great tips from the group. so thank you, all. so in return, please allow me to share what I've done with my set up so far and hope this could also help others. and maybe get additional tips for improvement as well

First off, finding a lanyard that would fit the Meikon tray proved to be challenging for me. so what i did instead was to buy paracord and braided it, attached a small stainless shackle and looped it around the base of the ball mount. 6 months after, no complaints.

2nd, to those curious if a shutter release trigger would work on the Meikon tray and Seafrogs housing set up, the answer is Yes. though it will require a few tweaking. see photo below.

3rd, I wanted to do macro shots but the short port with 67mm thread and macro lens/diopter is quite beyond my budget right now. so what i did was to use the 16-50mm kit lens and added an extension tube (the 16mm to be exact) using the standard port that came with the housing. ( i bought the housing during the time when all other ports was still on the drawing boards). a little DIY to extend the focusing ring and, voila. It fitted the standard port just fine. i'm pretty satisfied with the photo results. only downside of it is, you can only shoot in macro all throughout the dive.

lastly, i bought a 7artisans manual fisheye lens and followed Barmaglot's advice on the DIY focusing ring. used it with the 4 inch dome and setting the camera to 16:9 aspect ratio to remove the vignette. question though to those using this set up, are you satisfied with the sharpness and clarity of the 7artisans underwater? i'm having a hard time getting good focus. or maybe this is just the drawback of using manual lens for underwater photography?

here's a photo of the lanyard and shutter release trigger

cheers,

@deaniro is that the Nauticam trigger? Would love to do that with my rig... especially with a summer of cold canadian waters and heavy gloves coming up.
