If a tank has a regular 232 bar DIN valve, can you screw in the insert from a "Pro" valve to use a yoke reg on it?

In other words, is there anything special or different about a Pro valve, compared to "just" a 232 bar DIN valve? Or is the only difference that one comes with the insert and the other doesn't?

I'm asking for a buddy that has a yoke 1st stage and is going on a Red Sea liveaboard. He has been told that all the tanks on the boat are DIN valve. I am highly skeptical that they don't have any Pro or Yoke valves. But, if they don't, and if I they DO have 232 bar DINs, can he just take an insert from a Pro valve, plus the right hex wrench, and plan to use his yoke 1st stage?

Right now, he's looking at ordering a DIN conversion kit to change his reg over. It just seems crazy to me that he would have to do that for a Red Sea liveaboard....

I'm no authority but my yoke reg was accommodated on the Red Sea Aggressor. Why not have your buddy contact the lob and ask?

Did they say 232bar DIN? How do you know they aren’t 300bar DIN?

You know they are going to be DIN. it’s a liveaboard in the Red Sea. Why take the chance?

Cost of conversion will be minimal out of the total trip cost.

That’s why I love my B2 it swaps out in about 2 minutes. I run DIN at home but if I go on a trip I swap to yoke, cause that’s what most places use.

I don’t like using an adapter.

Yes - it will work but make sure it's not the deeper 300bar.
(EDIT: @guruboy beat me to it but this is the main thing to watch out for)

I just tried an insert in one of my doubles tanks with 200bar valves and it works with a yoke reg. One of my sets has a 300 bar manifold and that definitely doesn't work.

From the DGX website for the 200bar manifold+valves in question - "The valves have DIN outlets that can accept optional removable inserts (sold separately) so the valves may be used with yoke connectors. You may see this style of outlet variously described as Pro, 200-Bar DIN (G 5/8 BSP), or 232-Bar DIN"

All regs swap out in ten minutes if you've got the stuff

Do they permit grinders aboard?

has anyone seen a 232 or 200 bar din that doesn't have a yoke dimple though? that would be the only possible issue where a euro valve might not be convertible

Only ever seen 232 on Red Sea liveaboard's. No point in having 300b as the onboard compressor won't fill to that.

I've seen loads of people turn up with yoke style regs, just pop the insert in and job done for the week.

I'm sure they have spare inserts on board, but for a few Yankee dollars it's worth taking your own.

Thanks, all.

I understand the issue with 300 bar. That is why I specified 232 in my OP. When I talk to my buddy today, I will make sure he understands that he needs to confirm they can at least guarantee him a 232 bar valve and, if so, i'll give him one of my extra inserts to take.

Pretty sure they have inserts on board, atleast on the LoB’s i have been on in the red sea.
