Hey everyone,

How is the diving around New Orleans? I can't find any recent articles or posts (either way), and I'll be visiting the area in late February. Any thoughts?

The Mississippi river runoff with it's pollution creates a dead zone about the size of New Jersy in the Gulf. New Orleans is not a place to go to for diving.

If you check the local dive shops, they may have boat trips to some of the oil rigs that have interesting life on them, but it's usually a long ride out.

Next closest diving is around Pensacola and that is where most of the New Orleans dive shops schedule their trips for training and fun dives.

Regular commercial trips to the offshore oil rigs in Louisiana are not so common. There seems to be a charter boat or two that lists the trips pop up from time to time but it seems more like charter captains who run fishing trips expanding their marketing. You would need to charter the whole boat.
Closest diving as has been stated already is Orange beach, Al or Pensacola,Fl pretty much the same thing. There are trips going out year round. For us the water is cold and the ride out and back can be cold.
