I'm just wondering, if there was another aggressive post in here try to guilt/shame SBs into donating money to a different cause, would it be deleted?

Interesting responses here. I was a mod on a motorcycle site for more than a decade...every once in a while I would post a very similar post as I did here...the difference is stunning. I’d get one or two pushbacks and then numerous....thanks for the reminder....I’ll post up shortly. Many asked..how do I become neon blue...the response was to become a site supporter, then their name would be in neon blue...all liked the way the site acknowledged their contributions.

If you feel shamed by this post, I’d say look no further than within....if you truly don’t care, then you probably didn’t respond and that’s just fine too.

This is me...if I sell something in the classified, I like to offer a % of that sale to the site I sold it on....I also have purchased items at great discounts here...much better than Leisure Pro :) I found out about free Nitrox with ProDive by reading it here...that has saved me hundreds....

If giving is hitting the “like” button then good for you....to me, I know what it takes to rent servers and maintain up to date software to run sites such as SB....in the end, you don’t have to donate...others are doing it on your behalf.

I sure hope some people from New York would, when being pushy backfires, realize that pushing harder is not going to change the result. I have now been exposed to two that seemingly do not. One in this thread. The other is non diving related and unfortunately quite hard to ignore ...

This is exactly why you are getting pushback - tone and attitude. You are doubling down by further assuming that anyone who is taking you to task for your tone somehow is shamed by your posts, all without knowing anything about those people.

You need to work on your people skills. You are doing SB a disservice and generating ill will. The only saving grace, I suppose, is that I suspect most, like me, recognize that the crassness and attitude is yours alone and has nothing to do with SB, its owner, or its mods.

I know that servers, etc. cost money. I also know that via ads, etc. SB does have a revenue stream. I have no idea whether more money would be put to good use or not. I have no idea if I would appreciate that extra use. I donate to lots of things but I do not just throw money around without knowing that there is a need or reason for the donation that I agree with.

Not that it matters but I was a supporter of a smaller local SB that had no revenue stream and also did some mod work on it.

I have been the member of a professional organization for a long time. Some donate to it. I do not donate to it. I know from personal experience that there is a lot of money spent for dinners, etc. as part of committee and board meetings. I do not feel a need to up their food and beverage budget. Not saying that SB does that. I have no knowledge.

And @flyboy08 , by the way, I do tip DM/crew in areas where that is the practise... there I know who gets the money... and while you likely were poking tongue in cheek, it is a bit a below the beltline - imho...

There was a recent thread on this topic and the general concesses was not to tip as the Shop should provide adequate pay? Well, that’s just not how it works around the world. I tip if service is acceptable no matter what forum it may be under...$10.00/tank seems reasonable to me.

I’m glad you’re a tipper ;)

When I worked as a DM on SoCal boats I was not paid by my shop, nor was I part of the boat crew so I did not share in the tips. I did get a "free" boat ride for my efforts. It took me a year to wise up and quit working as a DM.

We really try not to edit posts, good or bad, about ScubaBoard or me. As you can see we left the criticisms of the post to stand, unless there was a personal attack in it.

ScubaBoard isn't perfect and we don't pretend to be. We're not the same forum as we were in 2000 when we began. We are nothing short of an experiment in progress. Someone suggests something and we're apt to try it. If if works, it becomes permanent. If it doesn't, it may very well disappear. Because of how important your feedback is to me, I ask the mods to never censor criticisms about the Board or me.
