it was never really the transmitters, it was the computers that read them that were the issue for most of us
Not sure about that. At least diving recreationally. Suunto transmitters gave a bad name to all transmitters, unjustifiably.

I’ve had no problems with transmitter on either side either with an old Aeris or with Perdix. I tried diving with two transmitters for a while but think I got some cross interference. If the DC loses the signal, I just raise it to my ear and it always reacquires it in less than a minute. I keep the batteries fresh, have a good feel my consumption rate, and my regular buddies’ consumption, and dive conservatively.

that is true, but if you look at the biggest opponents of it, the technical community, there was not a computer out there until the Perdix that didn't cause you to have to sacrifice the computer itself for the perk of AI. Every computer out there fell short compared to the Predator and Petrel, and they also cost considerably more. Why would you dive an inferior computer that's more expensive for the benefit of WAI? Once the Perdix came out, you no longer had to compromise on the computer, so the tech community was more willing to accept WAI as a benefit.

Agreed re tech diving. Most diving is not tech.
WAI is not a good acronym....could mean wired or wireless.
Yeah, but at least @tbone1004 tried to recognize that not all AI are transmitter based.

Wrist AI versus Hose AI? WAI/HAI
HoseLess AI versus Hose AI? HLAI/HAI

I think if there isn’t already a generally accepted acronym, it’s not going to happen. I generally use console, hoseless, or transmitter to be descriptive.

And the one of the most easiest to solve.
Good point! The other that I see a lot is a sticking inflator. Also pretty easy. Nice that the common problems are also easy problems!
