I was part of the second group and we strain our glow sticks through a fine strainer into a plastic jug so not to take any chances with glass or glow sticks being accidently released. we bring the jug down, release the glow and bring back the jug, which I personally did. But there was several bare foot divers that stayed and once I released our container of glow the turned on their lights and ruined our experience which they also shined lights directly into several of our divers eyes, me being one of them. I also went in sunday morning and removed many glow sticks. not pointing any fingers but we all must try and be respectful of this, myself included.

Sunday morning there were chemlights all over the ceiling and tiny peices of glass everywhere. They weren’t there Saturday afternoon.
Unfortunately, I could not be there for this event.

But I can say, that I have been to almost every other MegaDive event, and have been part of the Galaxy Dive team for the last 2 years. The plastic part of the glowsticks themselves are controlled pretty tightly, being handed from one diver to another for the chemlight release, then the plastic tubes are handed to a third diver who stows the plastic tube in a jug.

I personally am very anti litter, and I can guarantee that if this event were to be done in a messy or careless manner, I would be the first to disassociate myself from it. Once again, I was unable to attend this particular event, so I can't speak directly to this occurrence, but my experience in the past has been that the Galaxy Dive event has been conducted with concern and consideration for the possibility of litter and trash.

The chemlights that could be reached were cleaned out already. The sky isn’t falling but we can do a better job. Breaking and straining the fluid and glass outside the spring is the way to go. I am even looking for a way to buy the chemicals bulk to keep from even having to buy and then discard the plastic and glass In the trash.

Well Roxanne, just wanted to let everybody know that I am running late on the message I was going to send about David's brother and how all of it went. His brother passed away quietly November 1st if I remember correctly. David himself made it back safely with his bothers belongings. Just wanted to pass this information along.

We are so sorry for your loss. I know it's so hard when we lose a member of our family. Hugs to all of you.

So sorry for your loss, David. Peace and serenity as you pass through this dark season..
