I have been waiting to fix the bugs in our website before announcing this.

We have established a network of 15 underwater geocaches throughout LIS, RI and MA.

The caches are official geocaches, in that they meet the requirements of Groundspeak and are slowly being published on geocaching.com

They are composed of a 4 inch PVC pipe (green) with a concrete base and removable lit. They are designed to remain in the water and can be open underwater. Inside is a slate for people to sign and room to add trinkets (traditionally seen in land based caches). We will have geocoins made up for next year if not sooner. I did a double take on the one on the poling this weekend. Great idea.

This is a great idea. Hopefully it will help younger people get into the hobby. Not enough young people diving locally these days. I may try it if you can fit a good IPA in the tube.

Come to a SECONN meeting. We have 150 members, about half are 30 and younger.

That's great you have that many members. I'd check out a meeting but the stars would need to align because of on call work/family obligations. I'd be hanging out with the geezers because I'm approaching 50 quickly. I do think the big shots in the industry need to do more to get young people involved in the sport and I give you kudos for what your club is doing.

I completely agree, the industry needs to adapt. Check out our website, and you're welcome to come to an event. There is no separation of age.

Interesting Idea. Good luck. Would be interested in a follow-up post to learn how successful the idea is.
