Australian news is reporting a Thai navy diver has died in the cave system. Quoting “ from a lack of oxygen”.
May his sacrifice not be in vain

I just heard the news as well. That really sucks. RIP.
 
Sounds like he may of been dropping stage tanks within the system and expired whilst diving. From Australian ABC news channel
 
This is heartbreaking. What true heroes these divers are.

I cannot comprehend these conditions and what is being asked of the rescuers and the trapped children and man. As a not so confident diver the thought of these conditions fills me with panic at the surface. I am in incredible awe of these divers who are involved.

Does anyone know if there is any fundraising (legitimate of course) that we can contribute to for the rescue and for the family of the deceased diver?
 
Any idea why AFP divers using Nitrox for such shallow sump diving?

Jacob Goldberg, reporting for the Guardian, says that the diver died when he ran out of oxygen while placing air tanks at stages throughout the cave. His body has been sent to Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok and his hometown is Roi Et.”

So not a trained cave diver then? Single tank? But of course the media will not give us the facts.
