It's my 3rd time to do boat scuba in PengHu island since 2014. This time the special thing is it's a GUE group formed by two GUE instructors. And I joined this group and responsible for discussing diving stuff with diving store.

Here are some brief records of this diving trip.

Traffic
  • Flight: Uniairline from Taipei to PengHu Magong Airport. 1hr. 70USD. Overweight fee is 0.5USD per kg as it's a domestic flight.
  • Taxi: From Magong Airport to Boat port. 15 min. 100USD.
  • Boat: 40mins boat to diving store in another south island "Jiangjyun". Free as it's included in the diving package.

Diving Target
Diving store: Island 77
Currently Island 77 it's the only diving store could do legal boat fun diving in PengHu. The owner was a fish hunter before but gave up hunting, then starts developing the scuba trip in Marine National Park. It's the 4th year of Island 77 and this year it starts Nitrox. And per our request, they now also have double tanks for Tech diver too. Very friendly and active diving shop.

Diving Record

  • DAY1 (6/3) Normal Boat Diving in Siyuping island (Siyuping https://goo.gl/rtb5sh ). Big Spiny lobster! Visibility 10m. Depth 18m.
  • DAY2 (6/4) Drift Diving. (Dongji https://goo.gl/Xyoza4 ) Beautiful barracuda and L. argentimaculatus groups. The drift is about 1.5knot. While you see barracuda, diving guide will guide you hold the rock and enjoy the barracuda show. Depth 20m.
  • DAY3 (6/5) Wreck Diving. (Cimei https://goo.gl/pRmCtZ). The dive target is a battleship wreck under 30m depth. Stingray (very big about 1.5m and we saw 4 under the wreck ) and Platax teira groups.
It's a quick record only (busy family stuff as a father of two children..) so there are many details not addressed. Don't hesitate to ask if you are interested in PengHu diving. I will keep on exploring this area as it's full of history and lots of wrecks and reef underwater.

Hi Garibaldi
We are in Penghu for a few days and would like to explore diving options. What would you suggest for some non-tech diving? My girlfriend is not certified. Is it possible to do a discover scuba novice dive or are conditions not conducive?
Thanks

Hi Garibaldi,

Sorry for this late response. I am a newbie in scubaboard and didn't configure following the thread. My bad.
It's a bit late but maybe this info could help your next trip.

  1. What would you suggest for some non-tech diving? My girlfriend is not certified. Is it possible to do a discover scuba novice dive or are conditions not conducive?

A: Yes, I confirmed with the diving shop Island77, they do discover scuba too. And currently the scuba industry just starts there (3-4year), we could say 99% trips are all recreational scuba trips.

  2. is equipment available for hire and do they speak English?

A: Yes, they could serve customers with English. You could use the IM software app "Line" and add the id "do776977". It's their serving helpdesk.
