Yes we got very positive feedback from Mark on his cruise with regard the boat, crew, guides, safety features, and diving but as he says, there is still a certain amount of work to do in the cabin to bring it up to the standard we expect of her but we will have clients on every month thru June and will keep you updated on the progress. However having dived there myself, Malpelo at its best is like nowhere else and we feel confident that the Ferox is the right way to go. You can find her availability on our site and if there are are any last minute special rates search for liveaboards not on live feed

Hola, regards to all!

Just returned from a mission to Malpelo Island from Feb 18 to Mar 1. It was an outstanding trip in every way and very educational. For those of you considering this area, GO! You will not regret it. Yes there are pages with reports and comments of incidents that took place some time back about diver being lost, recovered and a fatality or two (correct me if I am off the numbers) but, as it stands, the trip is well worth it. We went on The Ferox, a very seaworhty ship. Splashed around on the following sites: Phantom's Wall (La Cara del Fantasma) D"Artagnan, Vagamares, La Nevera (The Fridge), Virginia's Altar (El Altar de Virginia), Monster's Low/ Depth (El Bajo del Monstruo), Castaway's Wall (La Pared del Naufrago), Heaven's Door (La Puerta del Cielo), Under The Anchor (Bajo del Ancla), The Freezer (The Refrigerator), and Frenchman's Cave (La Cueva del Frances). Saw a lot of hammerheads, galapagos, silkies, combo of some white/ blacktips, turtles, bonitos and tunas, barracudas, an octopus or two, eagle rays, dolphins and moray eels galore, could not ask for more at the time. Water temp ranged from 80 to 63 degrees depending on the site, currents were strong but manageable. The captain and crew were the utmost professional, always on the lookout for their diver's safety and comfort w/ out acting like helicopter parents. They held a daily meeting in the morning to outline the activities to follow and another one at the end of the day to seek suggestions as to how to improve things for the clients the next day, these guys were on the mission! Did three dives a day, no night dives on this one, but those dives were intense. The cooks went above the standard preparing meals and attending to those w/ special requests, no issues there. If any of you fellow divers is entertaining the thought of Malpelo Island, I'll say this to you: Yes, check out the reviews of past incidents and consider your skill level(s) and motivation and since there's no substitute for 1st hand experience, GET ON OUT THERE AND DIVE IT!!! As I conveyed at the start of this, You will not regret it. Again, regards to all. Diver Away!!!

It is in my bucket list. I’ve been to Galápagos (with Galápagos Master). Will go to Cocos (with Argo) this September & Socorro (with Nautilus Under Sea) this December. All of them issue Nautilus Lifeline Marine Rescue GPS (MRG) free of charge to their guess for quick rescue if they are lost at sea. I myself own MRG & Personal Locator Beacon (PLB1) when I go diving. Would Ferox offer similar service to her guests?

Greetings, Dan! Roger, the Ferox crew in their briefing issues every guest a PBL, very effective, some reports state that it is better than the nautilus. Don't recall the exact name at the moment but it it helps, it looks like an ice cream cone and it's very easy to operate and everyone, to include the folks on the island, WILL know your location. I'll do a quick search.

Got it, Dan! It's the McMurdo AIS S10 Divers PBL.

As a native Columbian, it does my heart good to hear of such exceptional diving there. Very, very cool.

just curious. back in the day i was on two trips to Malpelo on the Sea Hunter. On the first trip we encountered very poor viz down to 60 or so feet where it opened up to great viz and very cold water. Nobody had the suits for those conditions and we set sail for cocos after only a couple of days. You could see that there was an amazing shark action but they were ghosts in the fog. On the next trip a year or so later the viz was good and the shark action was amazing. Hundreds of silkys and hammerheads plus galapogos etc. But my question is has the boats figured out the time to go and the time to stay. I think that may have been one of the reasons the sea hunter stopped running the trip.
