just an FYI but the Raptor just cancelled this weekends trips due to the weather. The guy on the phone said something about it being a smaller boat, will be a riskier trip because of the wind. So, because I cannot cancel my flight to LA, I will be diving from the Spectre on Saturday and Sunday!

I just got the same message. Bummer! I won't be able to make it out with you on the Spectre. Dive safe and have fun!

Have you considered going to the dive park at Avalon, Catalina Island for day one instead of the boat? You can hire a guide from the local dive shops, make two great dives and then spend some time seeing the attractions on the island. It is a great start to Socal diving.

Actually I have been considering that. I’ll give them a call.

Boy, that water was freezing. I really can't say enough about the Spectre crew, they feed you pretty much three meals a day, and the food is awesome. I didn't see any seals or sea lions which was a bit disappointing, however the visibility was some of the best they've ever had out there apparently. I just wish I was more prepared for the water temp haha, an experience nonetheless!

I told you you couldn’t go wrong with the Spectre. They’re a great day boat. I used to go down and spend two days on the Spectre. They let you stay on the boat the night before. I would just book two days back to back and could sleep in the still and quiet of the harbor each night. The Capt. would usually go to different sites the next day, but even if he didn’t I didn’t care because I would just head off in a different direction from the day before. I called it my poor man’s liveaboard mini vacation.

Glad you were able to get out on the Spectre and that you had some great dives and visibility! Nice photos too!

I was wondering if anyone ever 'pre-warms' their wetsuit in the hot tub on these dives on the Spectre or Peace. I have heard of ice divers that keep their wetsuit in a ice chest with warm water before putting it on, and then once they are all geared up the pour warm water into the wetsuit. So they start off warm and it helps them stay warm for longer over the course of the dives. These guys are diving in water that is much colder than SoCal waters.

Good idea, except Spectra doesn’t turn on the jacuzzi until the end of the dive trip & on its way back to the dock, if I recall my memory correctly.
