And some people simply don't care for weight belts.
High fives man. I specifically chose to use SS BP even during vacation diving to reduce and even eliminate all extra weight I use with my rig. Yeah, sure I could look into a AL BP but the thought of putting a harness onto a new BP makes my skin crawl.

My wife and I both dislike weight belts--for her, I think it's a women's hip shape thing. For me, it's more about one less piece of gear to deal with. It's kind of fun to reply "NONE" when the dive op asks "How much lead do you need?"

The only weight belt I use is when I'm lifting heavy at the gym. Otherwise scuba-wise it has no place for me. I go to Cozumel a few times and year and at Aldora, they use steel 120cf tanks-in a 1.5mm suit with full SS BP/STA-I'm already at the bottom when people started their backroll of the boat.

I don't mind having some dumpable weight, although even though its just for emergencies, most divers will never ever have to dump their weights. I would prefer integrated weight pouches that are either part of the BC, or attach to the harness on a BP/W. My girlfriend does NOT want a weight belt. She had to use one in training since the XSmall BC she used didn't have integrated weights. She absolutely hates weight belts.

if you need lead, then you choose SS because it gives you ballast advantages. You choose Aluminum/Kydex etc if you don't need the ballast which is typically only in rebreathers and doubles though can also exist with steel tanks without a wetsuit
With a 5 mil wetsuit in fresh water I still have a bit of air in my wing at the end of the dive with a kydex plate a hp100 galvanized tank and zero lead. I would not want a steel plate.

In salt water with the same rig but an al80 I need 10 pounds of lead. A steel plate would be good.

I have two 1 lb. weights in a tiny XS pouch between plate and spg D-ring and a 2 lb light-canister on my right near the plate.

Ha! I have these same pouches in the event I do need lead but no light canister. I don't dive that much tech to have a fancy light!

My SS BP make me head heavy. My point was that the AL plate allows me to move two more pounds of lead and 2 lbs of battery canister to my waist where I need it without being over weighted.
