How many of you still have a SPG as part of your everyday gear setup when using an air integrated computer?

I do... Just a basic 2" brass and glass. I still want to know how much air I have in the event of a transmitter/computer failure. Some say it defeats the purpose but... That depends on if your purpose is to dive with one less hose or to have a convenient wrist display. Mine is the latter. I want a backup for piece of mind.

When I'm on the kind of recreational dive boat where the DMs changes the tanks for you between dives, or on a liveaboard, it is common for the DM to look at your SPG to make sure you've got the air you need/want. Nice to have the SPG if only for that, plus the redundancy issue.

I have one on my first stage, not so much for redundancy, but that I don't always use my AI Computer. If I'm doing pool work assisting as a DM I don't want the up/down quick dives logged on computer.

No.

Before AI, I dived with a SPG without backup.

With AI, I still dive with one pressure guage without backup.

I've just stepped off a LOB in the Maldives. No issues with DMs wanting to check air pressure in my tank. If is my responsibility to do that.

Let me clarify: if they put me on a low tank, I want them to know that and change it out. I'm never jumping without checking my own tank, but I'd rather have them do the best they can before it is my turn.

Yes. And while I know I may get chastized for this, I still have a full console complete with SPG, computer, and compass. And while I rarely ever look at it while diving, in the event of complete failure of my wrist AI computer, I have complete redundancy of all critical info. And it did get utilized during the time when my transmitter was sent away for the Suunto recall.

Tursiops,

When I attach my reg to the tank, I turn on the gas, check that AI comms is in order n check pressure at the same time. Plenty of time to swap tanks if you get one with a low fill. A low fill is a low fill - whether you are using AI or a SPG is irrelevant.

Yes, basic 2" brass and glass, for backup purposes.
