I see MAYAir quotes Saver, Priority ($2 more) and Plus ($11 more) on their webpage. Can anyone explain to me the difference? I can't find the answer on their FAQ or other.

One more question: Could someone please tell me if a MAYAir Cancun arrival 55 minutes before a SouthWest departure out of Cancun is cutting it too close? Seems our alternatives are to arrive in Cancun 5 hours before "scheduled" SW departure or do the bag drag. Thanks!

I can tell you for a fact at 55 minutes, you will have trouble checking a bag on Southwest. I got the hairy eye ball at 59 minutes and another time at 55 minutes, I nearly couldn't check a bag. We had to discuss it a while before I got the bag accepted. It was touch and go.

As for the costs, I would not buy them online. If you are only going back on Mayair, go to the office by Chedraui and buy them in person. Much cheaper. If not, email them and see what price you can get. You should be able to save a little. Who knows what the other classes are? They are all the same seats!.

All the same seats so as Chief says don't pay for upgraded seats and if you can purchase the ticket in person here.

55 minutes would be virtually impossible - MayaAir flies into a different terminal and you could wait anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes for the shuttle to take you to the other terminal which is another 10-20 minutes depending if they have to stop at terminal 1 to drop people off first. Then checking in for flight, going through security and asking the long maze they force you through to entice you to shop - you wouldn't make it. Nitvto me ruin that because the southwest is an international flight, you still have to check in in person at the Cancun airport - MayaAir cannot check you through to your destination.

With all of that said, when I take MayaAir to connect to a flight in Cancun - I make sure I have at least 2.5 hours before flight time - my experience over many of these flights is the quickest I've gotten from MayaAir to checkin (not including security, etc) is 30 minutes - but on average it's more like 45 minutes -

Hope that helps.

Chief, I never been to their office but just did a google map search and the "office" front looks like a small house?? Is this correct?

Tickets are $63 one way CZM to CUN online (which I have to do in November). Do I just offer them like $40 in USD cash or something like that?

Thanks,
John

Actually, there is a set price in pesos in the office. You can pay with a credit card. I want to say it is about 650-675 pesos a person for a non-local which works out to a little less than $40 US? I lost my little timetable slip with the prices on it.

It is just a small house. Go through the sliding glass door there will be someone there at the desk.

Before I bought them there, I would negotiate with them by email. That price was never as good as just walking in and buying a ticket, but better than the web price.

Make sure you read the extra $$ you have to pay if your bags exceed their listed weight restrictions. It can add up quickly.

I went to that office once to pick up a ticket for my sister to come over to coz.
I went in barefoot, in a bathing suit with a ripped tank top and three days of beard growth. I asked for a ticket in broken Spanish "Una bolletta para me hermina por favor". I was charged a very low rate. They either thought I was a local or took pity on me based on how I looked. I did not have to pay the gringo tax for once. YMMV.

MayaAir is a business and have set prices. It's not the flea market - hahaha!

Just like any other airline, they have X number of seats available at X price - once those fill up, you are subject to whatever category is available - so yes all seats are the same just like on other airlines - but fares are not "negotiable" so to speak.

However, if purchasing here on island, the prices are in MX pesos so you get a "better" deal because of the exchange rate. Purchaing online, you are quoted in USD if purchasing with a US credit card and in pesos if paying with a MX card. That's how that works.

lol, its a business in Mexico. Seems everything can be a negotiated price (as well as many other countries). That is why I asked and thanks for your explanation.

Also sounds like there is a gringo price and local's price from this "business" in Mexico (kind of like Hawaii).

Reminds me that there is a set USD price for most dive op "business" in Mexico but we never hear of a set price in peso's. Just saying :)
