A resident of the Isla can get an id card that gives them a discount for travel on and off the island by ferry or mayair. Also good for some restaurants and bars.

MayaAir is a business and have set prices. It's not the flea market - hahaha!

.
Actually I negotiated by email with them in the past and always for better than the posted price. Not as good as the in person office price, but still better than the online price.

My guy was Leonel Basto:

Hi Richard,

Sorry for the delay,

My best rate: $49.09 usd per person one way.

Please advice.

Thanks for all the great info.

I wonder if it's possible to negotiate a flight being added to the schedule. Cozumel to Cancun flights on Friday are currently 11AM and 3PM. A 1PM flight from Cozumel would be perfect for us to catch a 4PM Cancun departure. There will be 3 of us but I guess I'm just dreaming :)

The "Plan Local" card does not work with Maya Air. In order to get the local commuter rate on Maya Air you must actually present proof of legal residence here with a voters registration (credencial elector), Permanent resident card or temporary resident card - in other words proof that you are a legal full time resident here - although some who hold these cards are not actually full time residents but own property.

Actually all I ever give them is my Mexico Waterjets card and I get the local rate. They never asked for my permanent resident card which of course I NEVER carry around for fear of losing it. Now my Mexico Waterjets card is the permanent one, but I used to do it with my Ultramar card which was only good for a year or so.

Interesting - I always was asked for mine. But it makes sense, you can't get the Waterjet or Ultramar card without having it - I guess they figured that out :)

jimjam - I have asked about the long gap in flights - they told me that it was due to demand and crew shift changes - still I think they would have enough flight commuters especially now that flights into Cozumel are more limited with United pulling out. Hopefully they will figure it out and end up adding another flight :)

What! Is United pulling out of flights to Cozumel!

Yes, old news - but in checking flight options, they are still showing flights available every month into 2018 too - but very limited in AUgust, Saturday only in September, limited in October and more options start opening up in November, December again.

Maybe they re-negotiated but as of last month they were pulling out completely. We are all hoping SW will pick-up or fill in.
