I'm not sure it's fair to compare DRIS and DGX. I deal with both and have had great service from both, but they do carry different items and cater to different dive audiences. IMO DRIS has a wider range of items for the average rec diver and DGX has some very specific gear that tends to lean towards a more "technical" diver. It makes sense to me that DGX would have a "deeper" inventory. Again, I have no problem recommending both organizations.

I ordered several things from them a few weeks ago in preparation for a trip. Most of a week went before I finally inquired when my order would finally ship, as it was getting tight for making the trip. Like you experienced, nothing I had ordered was actually in stock and they were waiting on it from the distributor. That being said....once they knew I had a deadline, they sent everything 2-day express after they got it, at no cost to me. So, it worked out fine.

I agree, I've spent quite a bit of money with both DRIS and DGX and use them for different things. While they do overlap a bit with their technical offerings, DRIS offers a greater selection of products. DGX is my go to for bolt snaps, oxygen sensors, etc as they are cheaper but I have no problems with buying the same thing from DRIS at a more expensive price if I'm buying other things from them.

If you have questions on which items are instock, both offer a live chat option which is helpful as well as giving them a call during normal business hours (both shops have a brick and mortar locations). I've found both shops are willing to bend over backwards to help their customers and that is why I'll continue to shop with them.

Great thread, and a valid concern. Yes, our inventory levels are NOT mated with our online store. It's just not that easy. We have 1 POS system that does inventory, classes, rentals, trips, etc, and a whole different Online store. It doesn't do our inventory as the reports aren't as good, and we don't have the other features yet. We are working on linking them, but it's a BIG process. As much as we would love to be backed by big money as some of our competitors listed here or all over the web, it's just not the case. We have grown in 10 years only off of our customers, and will continue to grow and be a big name in the industry due to our knowledge, customer service, and most important our customers.

We do a LOT of classes - We get awards and stuff :wink:Most of the other guys don't, or they used to. They move to locations off the beaten path to NOT deal with you, and only your online order. They aren't as invested anymore. They only deal with hot sellers of manufacturers, and not the wide offerings we try to bring to you.

$1 million in inventory - right now, instock. It's never enough though, and we constantly are growing it as we can. It's a tough industry, most of the manufacturers don't have their own product instock and are flirting with going out of business. We can't get, what they don't have. Sometimes, we don't even know until it's too late as we have one and sell 2 the same day. Most orders, 95% actually ship the same day. Like others said, we also bring in the hard to find products, you mentioned an Analyzer, who else sells that Dive Soft? not many people, and we were the first to bring them here to the US 5 years ago for our customers. Also, that one you ordered, was in stock. A customer lost his hose before his trip, we sent one out of the box of the one we had instock. So, while you don't get your's as it's here not completed, we ordered a new one. That customer service is what sets us apart, and what you get from us, not everyone. And when you need us, we're here to make it happen. BTW - tracking shows it being delivered to you today, in 2 days as you needed :wink:Kim is sending that to you now. With how fast it all moved, it took us a little while to get the tracking from the manufacturer.

Well, sorry for the long typing. I actually created a video to help give you guys a walk thru of DRIS and who we are. We are not faltering, just growing pains. And we need all of you to help us continue to grow and offer more to you. It's cyclical.

Here is a video I just put together, off the cuff, unedited just for you guys this morning :wink:Just know, we are FULLY committed to this industry and more important our customers. That will never change, no matter the growing challenges we face in our industry and current economy. BTW, come dive with us!

Mike, you need a bigger shop :)

Buy more stuff = We have more money = We invest in a bigger shop  Like I said, it's all cyclical. This industry is going thru a LOT of hard times that the majority of people have no clue about, nor should they. It's really time that divers realize that, and start investing in the shops that are investing in the longevity of this industry. We are right now seeing big issues in this industry as manufacturers are getting slaughtered, and our industry and community is going down. Lots of people are to blame, but that doesn't even matter, what matters is the growth and growing our community. That's why we invest right back into the dive community, our local and worldwide community. Can all of the other Online retailers, manufacturers, even LDS say that? Unfortunately not. Most don't even have a staff of real divers....rant over. ha

...and this is why you guys are expanding when so many shops are closing

Keep up the good work Mike, this is why you guys will continue to be a not quite so local dive store for many people :)
