I think the best of both worlds would be to dive from a LOB for a week or more (make sure there's nitrox) then decompress for 3 or 4 days on a nice island resort. I recently did the Palau Siren for 8 days then went to the Palau Pacific for 3 days with a late checkout... Wow! Was it nice to finish with a beach resort... After the LOB which is dive, eat, sleep type schedule, it was nice to sleep in, hit the beach, snorkel, get a massage, walk the shore, hit the pool, etc. Great way to end a LOB vacation.

So do I hijack my own thread or start a new one? How about livaboards? Sounds like ra or wakatobi are where we will end up. I look at pricing of wakatobi and the add ons ($195 per day per person diving????? ) and i gotta think is this the best value? Oh and will we have the chance of muck diving at either location? It sounds pretty cool to me...wifey not so much but she will do most anything twice (just in case she did it wrong the first time)

Charlier that always has me confused...this trip of a lifetime thing..am I supposed to pick one? Only one? How will I know which one was until I'm done with this lifetime

Wingy, I completely agree - I seem to define trios of a lifetime in a six month time scale. Speaking of La Reunion and Mauritius, we will probably return in September. I really enjoyed the African-French vibe. During the 2016 El Niño, we found that the winds and weather were way more unsettled. Numerous low pressure systems in the Indian Ocean played havoc with our already flexible schedule. Charlie

If you like to chill out in a resort, WaKaToBi is it. For diving RA Liveaboard is better choice for me plus half the cost of WaKaToBi Resort.

September eh..lol! Stop giving me ideas!

Back to the thread..I agree with diving dog - I generally go somewhere quiet and chill for a couple of days after a LOB - Ubud usually.

LOBs really aren't that bad value when you look at cost of accom + transport + diving + meals + incidentals..you are still going to have to pay the RA Park fee whether you do it land based or LOB. With LOB you are guaranteed of seeing more dive sites than if you stayed the entire time land based.

...Reunion Island is stunningly beautiful....Zanzibar was our plan B depending on how things were in Madagascar but we loved it so much we hung there...getting entire resorts to yourself because it's cyclone season made it easy to stay...

I add Reunion Island to my ever growing bucket list. Thanks!

In La Reunion you must take a helicopter tour over the cirques and Piton Le Fournaise...simply stunning. Expensive as hell but worth every euro.

:rofl3: sorry, here :flowers:

Anyone been to Tofo yet?
:giggle:

I've been to MER once (which is enough for me) & LOB around MER twice (which is planning to do more in the future, at least Nov 2017 is already set). I like LOB better & a lot cheaper from 25% to 50% of the cost of staying in MER and seeing twice more stuff with LOB than with MER boat dives. My problem is my girl friend doesn't like LOB.

To go to MER from Soo wrong, I mean Sorong, is by 4-hr long speed boat contracted by MER. You would pretty much kill 2 days for coming & going to MER. But the resort is sooo pretty. Good for honeymooner. So for wildbill9 who is willing to cough up $15K+ is perfecto.

You may not always return to the resort between dives. If a bit far dive sites, you may go back after 2 dives.

You need to get a new girlfriend.
