Help me with planning a dream trip

No hijacking just great info! So many options. We really like Raja and our only concern is the current. Is there a better time of year or time of month when it may not be as bad? This is our ultimate dream trip and we want it to be the standard all others are judged by. Thanks for all the input and keep it coming. Bill

we were recently in RA. sure there is some current. but it is manageable. we have dove some places with really wicked currents. as long as you ride the current, you will be fine. bring a reef hook.

Its my understanding that go have the least current, best to go just after half moon phase. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about that.

Based on my experience, it seems that I am in the minority. In general, over the years, seeking out schooling fish, healthy reefs, and pelagics in Komodo and Alor require moderate currents. Although Raja Ampat has many current rich dives, in general, dives are generally more benign. The strongest current are usually occur after a new or full moon. In Alor, the lunar cycle and tide cycle are key for safe and interesting dives. Even the most experienced divers with local knowledge can get blown off of Alor dive sites.

I've been blown off a site in Raja Ampat. but it turned out great!!

There were lots of sites with plenty of current and the rest were mild though a couple seemed to be free of current.

We also had a bad drop or two, puff puff.

(since then I've been on 4 Maldives lob itineraries and have very little concern about dealing with current anymore!! )

What did you do in east Africa?

For me, diving in Zanzibar & Pemba were mediocre at best (but still better than Caribbean). Safari was fantastic. The ultimate bucket list checked off was summiting Kilimanjaro.

I went diving, got pee'd on by lemurs, didn't assist my dive buddy when she got bitten by a chameleon because I was too busy laughing, your basic random shenanigans lol.

To her credit she took the ever evolving plans in her stride. She was even up for an attempt to bum a ride with Yachties to Mayotte but it was wrong time of year.

Reunion Island is stunningly beautiful....Zanzibar was our plan B depending on how things were in Madagascar but we loved it so much we hung there...getting entire resorts to yourself because it's cyclone season made it easy to stay.

Zanzibar....I will get there...probably on a planned trip to Alaska lol.

Charlier that always has me confused...this trip of a lifetime thing..am I supposed to pick one? Only one? How will I know which one was until I'm done with this lifetime
