SeanQ:
I'm about to purchase a hose for a single tank rig. Did you fix the problem?
I moved the 22" hose from the rear port to the front port and it works better. A slightly longer hose, say 24", might be even better, but the 22" works well enough in this configuration.

I use a 22 on my single rig (DR 1st stage) and have no problems with the length. I like a 24 for my doubles as I use it off the left post. (Primary on right post - backup on left). In my single rig I usually clip the SPG to the chest d-ring and with doubles w/stage go to the hip.

Speaking of the short hose, I got a 22" hose and I'm finding it way too short. The reg hangs in front of me and to the right. It's mounted on the right rear LP fitting on my DS4 first stage. (Diaphram is facing downwards.) The long hose is mounted on the right front LP fitting. I think the short hose would be better on the right front fitting, but I'm wondering if 22" is too short for a single rig. (Maybe it would be better on the right-hand post of a doubles rig.) What length is recommended for the short hose of a single rig?

22" is the standard length—I’ve seen some 24" hose used but that is usually for a doubles setup (where the short hose is coming from the left post). The short hose should be on the front LP port on the DS4.

clip the spg to hip d ring.

I see so many numpties clip it to the opposite side across the chest...excuse being easy to read...

clutter where you don;t need it. Have your spg where its easy to grab and read but don't have it banging around your chest where, invariably, the necklace is far too long and sags like a pair of old tits and you have a nice gathering of gear to play with.

The necklace bungee should be right under your chin so you can dip your head and take it.......no hands.

What if the person doesn't have a left arm and is unable to clip it to the left d-ring? Would that person still be a "numptie"?

I'll have mine clipped to my left chest d-ring. Since it is "easy to read". :)

Left handed! OMG, I think I bought the wrong one, I only have my right hand! :(

Anyone wanna buy a "used twice" left hand SPG?

Old thread, but I figured I'd just post my questions in here.

I've been doing a lot of reading on here about DIR. I've got to admit a lot of the stuff makes perfect sense, so I've started changing my rig to more of a DIR setup. Got rid of the comfort harness on my BP/W for one-piece webbing. I've ditched the 2-gauge SPG/Depth console for just a brass SPG (by the way the 2 gauge console is for sale, though I doubt anyone under this forum will be interested). I replaced some of my hoses, to "clean-up" my setup with hoses that are of more appropriate length. The next thing I'm interested in is going to the long hose. Regardless of how far down the technical road I decide to go, it's just never comfortable doing share air exercises with a standard octo hose and that's doing it in a controlled, training environment.

I have a few questions:

1) It looks like some people bolt snap their long hose to the right d-ring. I'm curious to what the purpose is of that? Is it a comfort thing to help hold the reg in position? Just seems to me its another step you have to perform to donate in an OOA situation.
2) I do not have a canister light, so it seems the correct thing to do is tucking the remaining hose into your waist strap of your harness. For anyone else that does this, do you ever have issues with the hose wanting to work itself out?
3) As far as the bungee for your secondary. Seems like it may be better to make your our from bungee cord (instead of buying the premanufactured one), so you can more or less modify to where you want it to rest under your chin.

Thanks in advance for any input/advice.

If its not in your mouth the long hose regulator is clipped off to the right d-ring.

Examples include; doing an OOA where you are the recipient, going through the basic 5, breathing off a stage bottle or deco bottle, sitting around on the surface, and gear sitting around unattended.

Clipping it keeps it out of the way and readily available and can prevent the reg from being damaged. A good rule is if its not in your mouth or in your hand its clipped off regardless how long it will be in that state.

Long hose routing will depend on hose length and your body height and girth with exposure protection. Most people with a 7' hose and a canister light will route under the canister. I route under the canister and then under the knife sheath. Without a canister you can tuck it in the waist strap or route it under the knife sheath.

If you do the waist tuck make sure you don't create a huge loop that can snag things.

Yeah, make your own.
