I love mine , use it as an everyday watch as well .

They are really conservative during multiple dives

Either love them or hate them and I love em

They are still liberal enough that I got the skin bends and it was still happy. I guess I got mere dehydrated then it did.

Were you doing an especially deep dive? Anything beyond normal recreational limits? I've very conservative myself, so I figured the conservative nature of the Suunto computers I would like, but hearing this has me a bit worried.

We were diving to the limits I was at 132' max on air and did go into about 2 minutes of required deco. I did 10 minutes of voluntary deco in addition to the 2 minutes I was required to do using air for deco. That night our air conditioner broke on board and I got overheated and slightly dehydrated triggering the skin bends.

It was not a fault of the computer my case of DCS was triggered by dehydration. In fact the computer was happy and never locked me out for any sort of deco violation. Later that week when I returned to the water I set it at its most conservative and was fine (conservative 2 and altitude 2 per DAN)

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but in terms of planning dives using the Mosquito....

Lets say I do a dive to 50 ft. for 30 minutes. I'm on the surface and the computer is calculating my surface interval. I want to go back and do the same dive again (or say a different one...it doesn't matter). How do I tell how long I need to stay on the surface? Does the computer just keep the time I've been on the surface for me and I still have to go back to the tables to figure out the appropriate SI? Or, is this where the "plan" mode comes in? If in-between dives I set my next dive "plan", does it give me a count down to when I can start my next dive?

Again, I haven't dove with computers before, so I'm just learning about how to use them properly.

Your manual should have a Dive Planning Mode where you can enter proposed depth and proposed surface interval.
The great thing about computers is that it will automatically calculate that for you. Better yet it calculates deco at every foot several times a second where a table only factors for the deepest depth.

Take the data, i.e. the decompression obligation with a grain of salt. If it displays any depth hold in the 10' range I always double it. Not necessarily because I don't trust the computer. But because I might see something interesting in the water.

This is a good story on DCS and the dangers of being young and foolish. Should be a read for anyone who pushed the limits and another reason to use computers.

Not familiar with that computer but I very much doubt that. Typically the "plan" on lower-end devices is you punch in your planned depth, it tells you what your bottom time is if you splash right now. Especially if you want to pre-plan for your 3rd and 4th tanks of the day, you'd need much fancier software to guesstimate what your loading might be by then.

I sometimes look at the tables when planning a day of shore diving, specifically because I can't use the computer to plan the SI ahead. However, I find we mostly just use 1 hour for SI and more for lunch and that tends to be good enough for our typical diving trip.
