Thanks everyone, I may be freaking out a little early, since it's over a week until I'm due to be there....but cross your fingers and toes that the volcano is finished erupting.....

Any inside news from people passing through there in the next week will be very much appreciated....

It's possible that by the time your transiting it will calm down... it calmed down this summer after a few days of letting off some pressure
When scheduling liveaboards I tend to give myself an extra day in case of delays...like this morning when it was to close for comfort catching my first flight
on my way to Ambon...I arrive there a day early before my crossing trip from Ambon to Raja Ampat... I also get peeved when people schedule their flights to arrive the day of a liveaboard departure and hold up the boat as their flights are late.. not the best way to make friends at the start of the trip.

And there is no alternative way to get to LBJ except from DPS

Thank you for the reassurance. I've been reading this forum for years and knew to schedule everything with an extra day for buffer....(thanks everyone for your amazing advice....) Besides, I'm WAY to paranoid to schedule things the same day of arrival/departure. We have the whole day free the day we are scheduled to arrive in LBJ, then 4 days of land based diving before our first liveaboard so the most expensive part of the trip isn't the first thing when we arrive.
Still....what a bummer it would be to be stranded in an airport somewhere....

I dont see see any scope for re-routing your flights. DPS and LBJ are your only options - unless you want to walk into the cockpit and point a gun to the captains head ... :-/

Pearlman

I wouldn't even joke about that unless you like having your name on lists.

I'm glad I have a day early... as it is my flight from SFO to Tokoyo is late and I will miss my connection to Jakarta... now it will cascade through and I'll hopefully I'll get to Ambon in time

Fingers crossed for you!
