So I'm a new ish diver. Certified in July and have done 12 dives in support of SSI's specialties for Nitrox, Nav, and Search & Recovery.

I've done dives at Clear Springs and Blue Lagoon.

How is Athens? What's the visibility like compared to CSSP and BL?

Just trying to see if it's worth the 2 hour drive.

Thanks!

I was just looking at their FB page and their website. Some guy on FB says 6'-8' viz and their website said 8' viz. It also said 70* thermocline and 88* at the surface.

From their videos it looks like a small Blue Lagoon. I'm also toying with the idea of driving up there but afraid I'll be disappointed.

3.5h away from me. Blue Lagoon is closer for sure. But it would be fun, still if wasn't for the drive.

It's a 2 hour drive for me... the problem is that if it's got visibility like Clear Springs then I'd rather just go to Clear Springs at 1.5hr drive.
If it's more like Blue Lagoon in visibility... then that'd be nice as BL is a 3 hour drive.

Might just have to risk it.

Athens for you should be a great place to train in for navigation. I don't remember if the shop there has a map that has bearings to the submerged wonders. Don't even think about taking nitrox tanks and getting them filled. They don't do nitrox and as far as I now they do not have hyperfiltered air. The facilities are great and if you get there on the right night you could get fed to boot. 20 a head for the day and other fees for night diving (often comp'd) and overnight camping. rentals are 20 for a tank and I think 8-10 for a fill. The park is clean however if you are going to pitch a tent beware of rock ground on the shop side of the lake.

Yep, what KWS said.....

I especially appreciate how the owners make you feel that they truly want you there, and are happy to see you. They also host regular "treasure hunts" which are fun.
