Cozumel is different - very, very safe...
You don't follow the Cozumel Cops Facebook page do you?

It's safer than many dive destinations, but has its problems. Then there was the roof tile than flew over my head last month, landing in the street. No warning, just crash...!!

Nice to see my comment about Hotel Cozumels food was deleted while another posters comment of it being terrible was kept. Nice job admins.

The food at HC sucks. Breakfast is the only thing edible. It may be cheap, but be prepared to eat out a lot if you stay there. If you don't want to eat out a lot, pick an AI with good food.

SMH at the forum police.

Don't know who deleted your comment but last trip I had the BEST roast Pork I've ever eaten & that was at Hotel Coz. Not saying others would feel the same but I like the majority of the food there. Tacos or Fajitas at the pool snack bar for lunch are very good.

Don't feel bad. I also lack the pedigree to have full rights of membership in this most exclusive of clubs.

Did your comment include profanity? Was it abusive or demeaning to another forum poster? I don't see why a comment criticizing the food at HC, if it wasn't a rules violation of some kind, would warrant redaction by the forum moderators. FWIW, I have had remarks edited a couple of times, but I usually got a PM from the mods explaining why they did it.

X2 on Cozumel Palace. Endless pool, stairs down to the water for snorkeling and they have a small man made sand area. No complaints at all about the food.
It just got a little noisy because they had a wedding and couple nights of late night party people that don't know how to walk in the hall, talk or close a door like a normal person. We were just "lucky" to be right next door to them. But that happens anywhere. I did not use hotel dive op, I used Blue Angel; but this was about 2-3 years ago.

I can see any post that has been edited or deleted. None have been, or I wouldn't have participated in it. I am guessing he tried to edit his original post and forgot to hit "save" before leaving the page. I have done that before myself.

P.S. If a mod edits a post, there will appear, in the middle of the page, something that says "Last edited by" which everyone can see. It is a default and not something mods can over-ride. So even if you didn't get a message from a mod, the presence of this message means a mod edited it. Its absence means that no one did.

Only reason it would be good to be within walking distance to a dive shop is that, as we are taking courses and need gear, we find it is a good thing to be able to meet the instructor, try on gear etc in the shop rather than just getting picked up at the dock. If we decided to go non-AI, is there a good hotel/diveshop combo? We are not partiers so a quiet location is preferred.

Thanks for all the info, we have lots to consider!

Consider Aldora and Villa Aldora (aldora.com) (north of town)

You can also stay at places like Casa del Mar and pick a nearby dive op (south of town).
