Bonaire Water and energy company WEB has confirmed that legionella bacteria type 1 has been discovered in the water supply in two areas of the island. Type 1 legionella bacterium is harmful to humans.

The bacteria has been found in Kralendijk and Rincon during samples taken in December and January;
Director of WEB Alfredo Koolman has reassured customers that any findings are dealt with immediately and that the water on Bonaire is safe to drink and further states that the bacteria is only harmful if inhaled as a spray or from shower heads etc.
Legionnaires’ disease is a serious lung infection caused by legionella bacteria. Initial symptoms include a high fever, muscle pain and chills. Once bacteria infect your lungs, you may also develop a persistent cough, chest pains and breathing difficulties.

No, did not see this, and also looked on Bonaire Reporter, InfoBonaire, Bonaire Insider, and Amigoe. But, maybe the news is too recent to hit those sites.
I'll be following this....will be back on Bonaire in late May.
Thanks.

It may be different in Bonaire but in Raleigh, NC., the air heading to my lungs passes through part of the same tube as water heading for my stomach.

Legionella is different, you get it from breathing in aerosolized water from shower heads, air cooling systems, fountains, etc.

not heard of this, but did hear of a homeowner that connected the sewer line from septic system himself with some kind of connection to the water line that contaminated the drinking water in belnam. It has since been remedied. WEB found the source and is sanitizing all the lines.
Drinking water on bonaire is one if the best things about bonaire.. all the water is desalinized and you can drink it from the tap. Unfortunately this incident happened, but this incident has made Bonaire more aware what a dumb ass homeowner will do to circumvent the island hygiene and try to get around government inspections for the good of themselves and not thinking about their neighbors... strange, Bonaire used to be all about your neighbors...not some think its all for just them and forr their own betterment. Again, what a dumbass.
I hope WEB fined the person as well as the government as well as the people that they affected in Belnam.

This was the link in post #5 above.

Isn't most of the water from desalinization? Are the plants contaminated/colonized? There is vast literature on this from hospital water supplies
