Bauer Compressor "Is this worth fixing?"

Was given this compressor from a fire station and was told it was working until it's motor blew up. My question is, does it have value? It spins free, oil is clear and golden. I am very mechanical and with parts I have the aptitude to rebuild. I have $1000 - $1500 to work with would like to know if I should bother. It needs an after cooler tube and connecting tube, just to start. The Mako filtration housings are absolutely spotless inside.

You can call Bauer in Miami with the serial number and they will be able to tell you exactly which compressor block you have. The first two numbers in the SN should be the year of manufacture. Parts can be expensive so the cooling line replacement might be a show stopper. Since it was in a fire house it was probably well maintained, although it sure does look rusty. Since it spins free that is a good sign. Look at the intake filter cartridge for sign of rust.

You're in Homossassa. Contact Ed of ep compressors. He will happily check it out and tell you what needs done or offer to rebuild it for a decent price. I know of a least 5 shops from tampa to the panhandle that use him.

Looking at your pic I dont recognize the center/1st stage head. The right / 2nd stage looks like a lead on a mariner 1st stage. The left head looks like a capitano utilis or mariner 3rd stage. Thats all i can tell from the limited documantation on my end. Im thinking this might be a worthwhile project for you scott.

Interesting project - I looked at all the manuals I have and I can't find a single one with the plate on the 1st stage head. The second stage head appears to be a mariner 3 and the 3rd stage appears to be a mariner 3 also. It has a pressurized oil system (Line from the bottom of the oil pump to the 3rd stage) and everything else looks like an older Mariner the moisture trap and filter is adequate for breathing air as the compressor is probably 6-7 CFM with a 5 HP motor, Since it was free, I would certainly find a motor and see if it has oil pressure when turning and then replace what is needed. GOOD winter project

Can you have a look at the oval first stage valve
In the head has it a casting number 11609 ?
If so i have a second hand full first stage asy if you get stuck.
Also can i have the number on the crank case think it will be 80 or 81 version unit.

The clue is the orange paint on the gauge housing.
I think its a version built by bauer for poseidon.

Yes the # is 11609 also got the heads off to look at condition and wow very clean inside so I cleaned out the valves and put back together and it pumps air by hand and 3rd stage has built oil pressure and pumps too! I'm stoked!

Hi Scott
I was right then,At the time bauer built a version for poseidon.
the first version did not have a oil pump for final stage .Over the years they made some changes as parts run out.
The version you have must be one of the last they done at that time.
If you pm me your post address i will send you photo copy of the parts list i have for your first stage

As for your final cooling coil. Just make one out of 8mm S/tube easy done.
